Quaker Mini Delights, Cinnamon-Streusel Flavor: A Review

Another Delicious Treat for Those Limiting Their Calories

JRS
A co-worker offered me a pack of her Cinnamon Streusel Mini Delights, 90-calorie packs by Quaker, but I declined the offer. I must have also scrunched up my face while doing so because she began assuring me that they were really really good. I didn't want to hurt her feelings, so I accepted the 90-calorie pack, but I stashed them away for later.

I just want to clarify that I do like rice cakes, particularly the cheese flavored rice cakes because they taste like popcorn to me. On occasion I also buy the apple cinnamon rice cakes. I enjoy apple cinnamon and plain rice cakes with peanut butter spread on them. Still, the first thought that came to my mind when I looked at the pack of Cinnamon Streusel Quaker Mini Delights that I was being offered was that they'd be dry, disappointing, almost tasteless, cardboard-like substance. Sure, the picture on the package posed an appealing snack, but how often do snacks actually LOOK like the package picture in real life, much less taste like what they're supposed to taste like?

The photo on this Bite-Sized 90 Calorie Pack showed what looked like a moist piece of yellow cake topped with cinnamon streusel and drizzled with icing. Fresh cinnamon sticks lay next to the cake, and 2 of the supposedly Cinnamon Streusel bite-sized crispy multigrain cakes stood out in the foreground.

One serving of New Quaker Mini Delights Cinnamon Streusel bite-sized multigrain cakes has only 3 grams of fat and no cholesterol! It has 1 gram of dietary fiber and 2 grams of protein! Not bad! It also provides calcium and iron. People with certain types of food allergies should be cautious about eating these because they contain wheat, milk, soy, and possible traces of peanuts! There are 14 grams total carbohydrate and 6 grams of sugar in each 90-calorie pack.

Well, I'd forgotten about the New Quaker Cinnamon Streusel Mini Delights Bite Sized Light Crispy Multigrain Cakes that I'd stashed away, until a few days later when I became hungry for an afternoon snack. I rifled through my 'snack drawer' and found the 90-calorie pack. I decided I'd give them a shot, but my expectations were still low.

As I took the first bite I was deeply surprised to find that they were flavorful and had a true cinnamon taste. The frosty coating on top was actually half decent also. It was not 'fake' or waxy the way I'd anticipated it would be. The frosty coating was cool and moist on my tongue and not at all too sweet. This actually was a pretty good snack for only 90 calories! There was even a decent amount of cakes in the packet also. That sold it for me, I decided next time I'm out I'd pick up my own multi-pack of New Quaker Mini Delights Cinnamon Streusel multigrain cakes. Looks like dieting is getting easier and easier!
