Quality Food Dehydrators for Use at Home

Mary Wensing Dvorachek
My favorite dehydrator is the American Harvestor. My son bought me mind several years ago. I love to make my own minced onions, dry roses, carrots, fruit, use it for crafts and so much more. I only have a two tray one, which works good for just my husband and myself, but I am looking into getting a few more trays with the economy the way it is. This way I can dehydrate my vegetables and fruits and seal them in air tight containers to use later in the year. I save on energy by dehydrating my fruits and vegetables instead of canning all of them.

The American Harvestor dehydrator you can purchase with as little as 4 trays, or anywhere up to 20 to 30 trays. You can get trays to make beef jerky, or fruit roll ups as well.

American Harvest/Nesco dehydrator

Cost: $139.99 (online if you spend $99.00 or more shipping is free, under $99.00 shipping is $7.95)

Includes: 4 - trays with the dehydrating unit, recipe book and instruction book, a jerky and fruit roll up tray and a non stick mesh tray.

Size: 15.25" diameter x 10.25" high, this is with 4 trays

Has adjustable heating

1 year warranty.

L'EQUIP Filter Pro Food Dehydrator

The L-EQUIP dehydrator is rectangle in shape (I actually wish I had this one as it is larger, and it would be so much easier to store than the round dehydrator.

Includes: 6 trays, 6 stick-resistant mesh screens, 2 fruit leather roll up sheets, and dehydrator guide, 4 yogurt cups.

Has adjustable heating, and you can purchase extra trays as well.

The L-Equip dehydrator has air filters that can be blown out and reused, but also should be replace several times a year. They soon will be available for $1.99 per filter. I like the idea of these filters as it prevents and contamination while your food is dehydrating.

Excalibar Dehydrator

The Excalibar dehydrator comes with 9 trays. These trays are pull out (not stackable). You can pull out any tray with out having to take them all out, as with the stackable dehydrators.

Hi Patt, it all depends I think on how much you are going to use it. I have had my American Harvester for over 10 years and it still works great, it is lightweight, I love it. Hugs Mary
