Quality of Life for Mother-to-Be with HG

Anelia Sutton
I was diagnosed with Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG). HG is a dibilitating pregnancy disease that causes severe nausea and relentless vomiting, often until the day of delivery, and afterwards in some cases. The nausea and vomiting begins in the morning and continues throughout the day and into the night for the entire duration of the pregnancy and beyond. To say this disease is beyond morning sickness is truly an understatement. I lost the ability to do simple everyday things that most people take for granted. The constant nausea and vomiting caused me to be so weak that I didn't have the strength to take care of myself. Some days I would have to crawl to the bathroom to vomit because I was just too tired and weak to walk.

I couldn't get any sleep and most attempts left me restless. I would just force myself to sleep in short spells just to escape the nausea. I was not able to eat or drink anything and which would result in severe dehydration. I couldn't cook, or clean, or take care of myself properly yet, despite any of this, I was hopeful and looking forward to seeing my little bundle of joy after giving birth. I was treated for dehydration several times in the hospital, as this is main treatment plan. The other options are a choice of three medications to manage the nausea which I refused for fear of harming the baby.

Having this disease robbed me from enjoying the experience of being pregnant. My hope is to get the word out about this disease and to put an end to the needless suffering by finding the cause and the cure for HG.I'm still in the beginning stages of my research with several working theories. I stumbled upon a natural solution website that had something about nausea and getting relief from doing a liver detox. I tried it in my eight month and it worked. Within the first week or so I was finally able to leave the house. I am following up on another lead where there is a correlation between nausea and PMS.I plan to continue my research in hopes of finding the cause and the cure for HG. Wish me luck.

HG is a little known pregnancy disease. There is no known cause or cure. I'm trying to raise awareness to help prevent others from suffering with moms from this debilitating disease.
