Quantum of Solace 2008

Bond, James Bond

James Bond tries to save the water. He's on a mission again, and I don't say this reluctantly because from the beginning you see him swinging around like Tarzan in a suit. He puts The Bourne Ultimatum to shame as he clutters down the extendable stairs, flies around like a circus act then beats up the baddies like a clown in the first five minutes. Well that's the circus charade out the way. Onto the rest of film (without revealing the whole plot) it includes everything you'd expect from a British intelligence movie; action, intelligence, light sexual scenes, and whole hearted faith in the hero (even though he spends most of his time in the film being distrusted). Previously in the 007 conundrum the James Bond in the shape of a icosikaihenagonology (21st) 'Casino Royale' insisted on painting Craig as a bad boy. Now the icosadigonology (22nd) continues with this ridiculous notion except they almost arrest him this time. Judy Dench 'M' is a great actor however I think she is the trouble maker of the team, Q is much better; John Cleese has always been funny taking over from the original 'Q' who was the heart of Bond's team, however there is no 'Q' in Quantum of Solace. For quite some time now. DirectorMark foster brings to the film a technological apple like application of shots, everyone are tactile including Bond, constantly touching things, scrolling through screens, hugging. The panache of Bond is depleting some little. For example he now insists on an olive in his drink, sorry no it's the shaken not stirred condimental thin slice of lime that got my mouth watering, why not a thick chunk of shredded slices. Even the traditional dinner suit now seems out of date. I think it's time for a 'tracksuit Bond' from the Northern region of Britain, who maybe for example knowing how to swear in Albanian.

My favourite scene's of the film are infinite, it's a great film full of motorbike chases, helicopters chasing planes, boats flying over boats, boat hopping, building hopping. Then there is as ever the usual underwater scenes. What is now a new addition to this quandary to a lot of films that I've noticed recently is; of how mobile phones now seem waterproof and the cars are no longer fascinating. In this film the submarine scenes and the repeatedly near death of 'Bond's' friend 'Felix', and Bond on a Sunday spending time with beautiful women (not always seducing mind) are forgivingly repetitive. Sony Erricson have really gone to town with his phone this time even I could have had a phone like his however I'd like to know exactly where he downloads his applications from. If this film was starring Sean Connery it would be perfect.

It goes on for you slightly less than your bog standard Bond films (106 minutes) which is perfect for a Sunday afternoons feet up and do absolutely nothing. Can't wait to watch the repeats on TV and on Boxing Day and just hope that Judy Dench steps down so they can fill her shoes with a man. I mean a man with his own shoes who is not so active and stay's in his office. Which brings me on to submissive Miss Moneypenny, she is a rising star whom I'm sure the next plot has room for flexibility. Not that every possible plot has already been hammered. Ian Flemming I believe lived the life of a secret agent which is why his stories and plots were on par with modern trends, however modernity has become so informative and obtrusive of all our lives there seems to be not many surprises.

I was outside last week in Liester Square trying to get interviews with people about what they thought. Could this be their favourite film of 2008, would they just like to speak into my Dictaphone. A handful of guy's perfectly carried this task out although; gave their opinion, on some more striking films, of this phenomenal year for movies. Where as the women were even less subliminally receptive, not even wanting to have there comments recorded. Don't worry though they didn't bomb me out, they were just not sure of their favourite film of 2008. May the onslaught of quantitative success of MGM and other oligopolies films continue.

Thanks for the review on this. I have a hard time imagining Bond being anyone other than Roger Moore or Sean Connery. Excellent work!

I used to love James Bond but I lost interest after Roger Moore for some reason. I think Craig's bond is too hard edged. I like the actor, just not his take on the character.

My hubbie and I have a tradition of seeing the new James Bond movie every time one comes out around Thanksgiving (every other year almost like clockwork). Craig isn't my favorite, but I always look forward to them. thanks for the review. Will be going in a few days!
