Quantum of Solace - a PS2 Game Review

Walter Kovacs
Quantum of Solace of the PlayStation 2 is an incredible game. It is a third person shooter, and is the only James Bond game so far (for the PS2) to have a regular aiming system (not "lock on"). This new aspect makes Quantum of Solace a new and more fun experience. This game isn't just another James Bond 007 game.

The graphics are definitely up to the PlayStation 2's maximum capacity. They are the best PlayStation 2 graphics I have yet seen. The sound is well done. The music is in sync, and the voice talents of the characters are by the same actors from the movie (Daniel Craig is the voice of Bond). The videos are very high quality. They are sort of misleading. When you first turn on the game, you get a video to start. You become very excited about the graphics, and then you see the actual game. The videos are almost up to a PS3 standard. The graphics are strictly PS2.

Then there is the game play. There are a lot of features in this game. One great feature is that there are a lot of ways to move. By pressing the Right Analog Stick, you control if your player is in "Aim Mode" or in "Speed Mode". In speed mode, you have the ability to run very fast and switch cover quickly. In Aim mode, your character slows down, but you are able to control almost the exact spot of the bullet. Constant switching will make the game easier. Just make sure to switch out of aim mode when you have to run through a ton of bad guys. Otherwise you are going to basically walk through and get killed (in about 4 seconds, based on the difficulty you are playing on). To go along with shooting, make sure to turn down the sensitivity of the controller. If you have it too sensitive, you won't be able to aim very well. You will definitely miss more shots than you would have with the sensitivity down. In some levels, missing shots is a big deal. If you alert the bad guys, they will set off alarms. Finally with game play are bond moments. In hand to hand combat with bosses, you will have to preform button combinations to win fights. If you miss a combination, you will die. On one level, a car will speed by you. You have to shoot out the tires before the car escapes. Granted, the camera goes into slow motion, but it is still difficult.

This game is a lot of fun. I would recommend it to anyone who has seen the movie. Having seen the movie makes following the plot a bit easier. Also, I would only recommend this to children over the age of 13. There is some violence that is frightening at times. I would rate this game a 10 out of 10. Make sure to rent before you buy though. Always rent first. This game is rated T for Teen.
