Queen Rania Hospitalized on Daughters' Birthdays

Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan underwent medical treatment in a New York hospital for issues involving an irregular heart beat, according to a statement released in by the Jordanian palace in Amman on Monday, September 27, 2010. The palace statement said that "The procedure is a catheterisation through a vein to the heart. It is used to treat abnormal heart rhythms, or premature ventricular contractions, which is a common condition." A palace spokesman also indicated that the procedure was a success, "her majesty is well and in good spirits. She will remain in hospital for two nights while she recuperates."

No mom wants to be in the hospital on their child's birthday, even if she can speak to them on the phone or via web cam. Unfortunately, this problem arose on on two very special days for the royal family of Jordan. Yesterday, September 26th, was her daughter, Princess Salma's 10th birthday, and today is Princess Iman's 14th birthday.

Queen Rania has two other children: Crown Prince Hussein who is 16 years old, and Prince Hashem, who is 5 years old.

Queen Rania was in town with her husband, King Abdullah II, for his address to the United Nations General Assembly. The beautiful 40-year-old queen, who is always involved in education and other causes, was conducting some business of her own on this trip. She attended a session of the Clinton Global Initiative on improving women's rights around the world. She also advocated for education, handing a petition with over 18 million people's signatures to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, reminding world leaders of more than 69 million children world-wide who go unschooled, exhorting them to work together to remedy this global problem.

King Abdullah II stayed with Queen Rania until the procedure was over and then flew back to Jordan.

Tough to not be there for the birthdays, but better than losing her. She should be fine now and around for many more, and can continue her good work.

Wonder if she's covered under our new health care plan, lol!

A nice short report...may she recover fully. Rania is one of the few "royals" worth discussing beyond E-II.
