Quentin Tarantino is Back with His Version of a World War II Movie

The Hollywood director and writer who won an Oscar for his script of the 1994 cult classic Pulp Fiction is back in the limelight again. Quentin Tarantino who is known for his movies that sensationalize and sometimes stylize violence is set to release his version of a World War II movie on August 21, 2009 that will be titled Inglourious Basterds. The movie will be released first to the U.S. and Canada with no word on International release (source: news.yahoo.com).

The oddly spelled movie will feature super start Brad Pitt who will play a U.S. Army Lieutenant leading a group of soldiers behind Nazi lines, terrorizing the enemy. The movie reportedly borrows the qualities of the Spaghetti Westerns from the 1960s and 70s. The Spaghetti Westerns, which were mostly Italian made, were known for their graphic violence and their almost fairytale like qualities (source: news.yahoo.com). Sounds like something that's right up Tarantino's alley.

Tarantino has directed such movies as Pulp fiction, Kill Bill Vol. 1, Kill bill Vol. 2 and Reservoir Dogs. Each movie is presented out of order with the time line jumping back and forth and leaves the viewer maybe a bit confused at first. There is no word if the new film will follow the typical pattern of some of Tarantino's past films. While many in Hollywood criticize Tarantino for the over excessive use of violence in his films he enjoys a very faithful fan base.

This is the first film for Tarantino since is release of the movie Grindhouse which was a combined feature back in 2007. Tarantino got his inspiration for the film from the 1978 World War II movie "Quel maledetto treno blindato," also called "The Inglorious Bastards," from Italian director Enzo Castellari (source: news.yahoo.com). Why Tarantino decided to spell the title of his movie "Inglourious Basterds" is not known, but it is an action not unlike something from the mind of Quentin Tarantino.

While little is known about the film it will probably promise much of Tarantino's films are known for: violence. The mere fact that it is a war movie suggests a heap of violence. If it is like his past movies, there will the promise of an iatrical plot and lots of blood and gore to go with it. Though some may not agree with his style, he is back with his version of a World War II movie. Mark your calendars as October 21, 2009 is sure to be a busy day at the box office when Inglourious Basterds is officially released.
