If you have lived, you will surely die. Do you deserve a painful death-does anyone?
We live in a world that doesn't recognize the right to die. Should one be allowed to commit the ultimate act of suicide? Who's right is it anyway? The terminally ill, the mentally ill, or the prisoner facing death row? Perhaps a young child who will never walk again? Maybe the aged and dementia patient? Maybe you?
Some right to die supporters believe that a terminal illness should end physician aided. People who suffer an incurable condition should have the right to chose when to die, ending their pain sooner then later. If only by request. Supporters would call this the ultimate in civil rights.
Opponents compare it to the likes of the holocaust. Death on demand. The debate reaches to mortality and compassion. Although they do believe death should be painless and dignified. The so called: right - to - die will become, a duty to die.
Aid in dying takes several forms of action. Assisted suicide is when a friend or family member provides the death willed person with the tools to kill themselves, but the doomed person does the deed alone.
Involuntary death or mercy killing is when a doctor performs the deed without patient consent to end their suffering. Letting die is an act of kindness to death. One is merely starved or not treated medically to sustain life.
DNR ( do not resusciate ) is an option often granted for the aged or someone entering high risk surgery. You have the choice to want to be keep alive on machines if something should go wrong. This option is often controversial. After all, why should you get the choice to live or die only in this case?
Untreatable illness is a slow and painful death. Yet this choice is the most common. People refuse medical attention for various reasons. Should they be forced to seek prolonged life, even if the quality is below standards?
Many people believe...only GOD has the power to end life.
Do you believe that we appreciate more as we watch a loved one suffer all the way to deaths door? Do we do better when we suffer a most painful loss? Would we trust each other more? The erosion of human life is at stake. If the right to die was legal then how could we control the level of pain one must feel before letting them take their own life?
If suicide is projected as a constitutional right-then why not enjoy it?
If the right to die is slated as a personal decision, should it be allowed without legal recourse? Should the next of kin be held accountable? If you are due death, shouldn't it be at your own will?
No two people will have the same view on the right to die. It's a decision of personal nature, like the issue of abortion. Another life or death right. Some believe, some don't. It is based on circumstances. The quality of ones life can't be based on ability. Life is a privilege. Is death?

Post a CommentYou've missed the fact that all doctors take a Hippocratic Oath to sustain life wherever possible, and this puts them in an ethical and moral dilemma. There are multitudes of pain medications to remove the pain and suffering of those who are dying....this "right to die" issue is another example of the "quick fix" and "sound bite" mentality of this new generation. Most likely, those who are uncomfortable with facing their own deaths want to "ease the suffering" of the elderly, when it is a natural progression and are those who will walk miles to save the whales, but supported the Teri Schiavo death by dehydration which was nothing more than what the Nazi's did to those who were nonproductive. We are a country based on "Nature's Law" and nature taking it's course should be the priority, not clearing bed space.
