Questions About Abortion

Eric Cooper
In my last article Abortion-NOT an Option I received several comments, and the most recurring question was "How is it a A God issue?" My answer to that question takes me to the Bible. In Psalm 139:13 the Bible says that God covered us in our mothers' womb. God knew every difficulty, physical disability, and sorrows you would have before you were born, and likewise with the unborn babies that are around now. God knows everything that will happen in their lives. Than means the mothers should not take matters into their own hands and abort their babies.

Another question I got was "How is one life more important than another?" This was referring to the "pro life people" who murder the doctors who help with abortion. My answer to that is, those who murder the doctors who help in abortion are hypocrites. They say they are supporters of life, and yet they murder someone themselves. That does not make any sense. I am pro life, and I believe abortion should be illegal, but we should find peaceful ways to protest abortion.

The final question I will address is "Why can the mother having an abortion not just turn around and repent the Christians do?" My answer for this is, first of all, Christians don not just do something then repent about it. We are all sinners just like the unsaved, except that we have accepted His free of salvation. That means we believe Jesus is the Son of God, and that He died on the cross to forgive us of our sins. Also we believe that He rose again and had victory over death. If you have not accepted Christ's gift of salvation you can do it right now. If you have any questions please ask me. Let us go back to the question. Christians do repent for their sins, but those people who are not saved can not because they do not have that relationship with God to talk to Him. Before they repent they must accept God's free gift of salvation.

Again if you have questions about anything please ask me. I will be thrilled to help you out.

Hey Sarah I thought that I would add a little to what Chris said. A true Christian follows what the Bible says, to the best of his ability - and with the help of God. The Bible says "Judge not that ye be not judged" this is often hard to follow but if followed then that would negate the idea of "meddling"

Sarah, you're a little off here. Eric never said that anyone having an abortion could not possibly be a Christian. And we Christians do not just sin because we are forgiven. With the Holy Spirit inside of us, sin guilts us greatly, and we ask forgiveness in true guilt. Also, he never "meddled" in anyone else's business. God calls us to judge ourselves and to watch out for others as well. Simply pointing out that someone has sinned is not meddling. Eric has done a great job and covered all the bases in this article.

If the woman has an abortion, she doesn't have a right relationship with God? I'm sorry, but how do you go about determining what kind of relationship someone else has with God? That sounds an awful lot like the meddling that is often seen coming from some Christians who enjoy getting into everyone's business instead of minding their own... :(

I grew up under the belief that God determines when he calls people home and it is just a matter of when, where and how. this means that if the baby is to be born, it will be born; if the baby isn't meant to be born, then the pregnancy will end without the baby being born regardless of medium - miscarriage or abortion.

In regards to Sarah Copeland's comment:The mother is not less able repent than any other Christian is, and yes, a person can be a Christian and still have an abortion, but that would mean they don't have a right relationship with God, and they can only be forgiven if they are actually sorry. Thank you for putting your impute.

In regards to the last part where you talk about repenting, I think you're assuming that a woman who would choose to have an abortion could not possibly consider themselves "Christian". If the woman is already a Christian, chooses to have an abortion, and then asks to have that "sin" forgiven, why is she any less able to do that than any other Christian would be? Either way, I do appreciate you addressing these issues. We can agree to disagree. :)

Great article, Eric. I enjoyed seeing you respond to those questions in a way that makes you wise beyond your years. Great job!
