Questions about America's Direction

Deez
I am just an average man from a blue collar background. I am bless with a wonderful wife and two beautiful teenage sons that are on the verge of manhood. I do not pretend to know the ways and means of the educated and powerful men that control our country's destiny. I have been a registered active voter all my adult life. I have at times been disenfranchised with the political quagmire and have abstained from voting. In recent years however, I have felt the over powering urge to make my small insignificant voice heard once again.

I am writing this today in the hopes of making my voice personal. I would like to try and communicate my feelings of dissatisfaction with current world events and the part America is playing. I will not quote you statistics and facts in regards to the war in Iraq, for I'm sure you are more informed than I. As you well know, statistics and facts can be spun in various directions to suit ones own needs. Make no mistake however, I do understand the cost we are paying, in blood and treasure, for prosecuting the war in Iraq.

I would like to make one thing clear to you before I go on. I have a great respect for our nation and our men and women that serve her in the military and I feel their service and sacrifice to be the most noble calling a citizen can answer. I love this country and, despite all her faults, I still believe in her and would never want to see her jeopardized. I do feel however, that we have all been taken advantage of by an absolute abuse of power.

Is our hegemony in the middle east a necessity? Is it worth the price we are paying in blood and treasure? Does the United States have to control the oil to control the emerging industrial and technological giant that is China? Do we need to control the oil in order to control the remainder of the globe? Will we not be able to maintain our way of life? Will we cease to exist if we can not have power over other nations? What is the true purpose of our recent course?

We have taken control cajoled and coerced the globe, grabbed power, exploited labor and natural resources of other nations as well as our own. We have committed heinous acts and murdered in the name of hegemony. We have betrayed our own citizens. We have given our rights away indiscriminately. Our country is becoming a police state without Due Process. We are on course to eliminate all trade barriers between the North American Countries. Where does it end? What direction do you see the country going? To me it appears bleak and desolate devoid of the light that once was America. Does this not smack of ORDO AB CHAO? Beware this Pandora's Box my friend.

I do not pretend to have any answers to offer you but I thought you should hear the voice of one concerned citizen and father. God bless and keep us and offer us guidance and may God give us the vision and strength to make a difference.

We are certainly in the very wrong direction and I am not sure if it is too late or not to steer this titanic of a country back on the right course. Because the iceberg is certainly ahead. As for the Middle East, I think we do control it even with its problems because if there were no problems in the middle east we would not be there. Let's face it, in order for us to interfere there must be an attack on us or a problem. Just like WWI, WWII, Korea,Vietnam,Afghanistan in the 80s and now again Gulf war in the 90s and now again.

Our country is strange. I no longer think that we are in a better place than others. Our society is a privileged society, and we can do without all the necessities they claim we have to have. You made a good point. Our country never admits to their wrongdoing and never will. When it's all said and done, no one will apologize for killing well over a 600,000 innocent Iraqis for who knows what.

I'll tell you where the US is heading. A devalued dollar to the coming of the north america common currency, the Amero. From apparent full safes to the biggest deficits since Hoover with China holding more of the debt and the US borrowing 2 billion dollars to pay for outdated domestic and foreign policies. From a sovereign country to one that sells its highway system for pennies on the dollar. From a country that governed itself to one that lobbies for a central government with private corporations at the head. With a country that respected the Bill of Rights and the Constitution to the suppression of the First, the second and the third ammendments. From having kids who could grow up safe on the streets, to Merck creating vaccines that have live cancer viruses in them. From a country that had enough money to support everyone's needs, to having 46 million people without health insurance. But worse than all these, Americans sit on their asses sucking their thumbs and taking every

oh forgot to add I am not in favor of being in Iraq, it was bs from the start. I also do not think we went in there for the oil but rather to give Bush a legacy. Since Isreal was created in the 1950's 11 sitting presidents has tried to solve the Palestine/Isreal problem and failed. You will go down in history if you solve this one, and I think Bush thought if we make a country democratic over there we are on our way. He forgot it took decades for the US to get up and running and be free of British influence. Heck, we had to fight them twice to show we want to left alone and the first time had a 33% approval rating at the time.

If you think we have hegemony in the middle east you are crazy. The last time any world superpower had hegemony over the middle east was 200 years ago by the British. Even then, no one controlling force has run the area or had control for very long over there. If you flash forward a thousand years there will still be fighting for the land there. Things would be a lot different over there if we were in control.
