Questions to Be Answered in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

Alternachic
In the second movie in the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, the plot thickens and many questions are left unresolved. Here are some items that viewers can't wait to have answered in the sequel, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.

Jack Sparrow/Elizabeth Swann/Will Turner love triangle
In the first movie, Elizabeth and Will discover their love for each other amidst a protective father, pirate attacks, and a snobby commodore; in the second movie, they defend their love from more pirate attacks, the Kraken, the East India Trading Company, and the same snobby, traitorous commodore. In the third movie, will they have to defend their love from Jack Sparrow? Foreshadowing tells us that the compass for what both Jack and Elizabeth really desire points to the other, although we don't know in what form (Is it love? Are they using each other to get what they want?). The effects of the oh-so-infamous scene in which Will spies Elizabeth kissing Sparrow in order to chain him to a doomed ship, was only seething to the surface in the last scene of Dead Man's Chest. Not to mention that she lied about Jack's intention to stay with the sinking ship? We all know that her hint of remorse for this action only makes Will suspect romantic feelings between Elizabeth and Sparrow even more.

Jack Sparrow's fate
The last we saw of Jack Sparrow showed the Kraken swallowing the sinking Black Pearl, a ship that Jack is chained to (physically and mentally). Our first thought is to think Jack Sparrow has finally met his end; but as avid Pirates of the Caribbean viewers we know better. If you know anything about Jack Sparrow, you know that he possesses an uncanny ability to slide out of the most slippery, death-should-be-imminent situations, even if it is due purely to luck. So where is our beloved pirate, Jack Sparrow? Tia Dalma asks the crew of the Black Pearl if they are willing to "sail to the World's End" to save Jack Sparrow. Where is the World's End, and how did Jack end up there? Not to mention, how will the crew, alongside resurrected Sparrow foe Captain Barbossa, get there?

The debt to Davy Jones
Davy Jones seems think Jack Sparrow's debt is settled when he believes him dead, but we know this is not the case. Will Davy Jones return to the screen as Jack's opposition? Then there is the whole other situation with Davy Jones's heart. Will Davy Jones be able to find out who possesses his heart? How will Davy act now that his heart is in the hands of someone else, particularly the East India Trading Company, known for their pursuit of punishing pirates? Can he fight back, or is he essentially just a slave to whoever holds the heart?

The East India Trading Company
Lord Beckett, agent for the East India Trading Company and former employer of Jack Sparrow, seems to have a hand in all that takes place in the movie. He demands the arrest of Elizabeth and Will prior to their marriage, as well as of former Commodore Norrington; thus controlling the motivations of all three in their quests for clemency, and initiating the search for Jack. At the end of the second movie, he has not gotten what he had asked for (Jack or his magic compass), but he is presented with something of similar power: the heart of Davy Jones, stolen for him by Norrington, in exchange for his signature on the Letters of Marque, of course. We can guess that this chain of events will transpire: Beckett will pardon Norrington, and the two will join forces against pirates. But how will Davy Jones, the Kraken, and Jack Sparrow factor into that?

Barbossa
Perhaps the best cliffhanger in Dead Man's Chest was the mere second clip of Captain Barbossa, famous for being the cursed former caption of the Black Pearl. Tia Dalma has called him back from the dead to captain the current crew of the Pearl in their effort to save Jack Sparrow from the World's End. But when Barbossa does lead the crew to Jack, will these former adversaries play nice, or will Barbossa try to get revenge on Jack? (Personally, I'd love to see Jack and Barbossa team up against Beckett and Norrington.)

On May 25, 2007, these and other questions shall be answered as Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End arrives in theaters around the globe.

Well, the movie could have been better, but it did have its moments. Thanks for this. It does clear up some confusion for me.
