Elle Godin
The health profession is seeing a shift in the way that doctors are starting to treat patients. About a year ago, I decided to make the switch from a traditional physician to a holistic healer to learn techniques to create a healthier lifestyle. Treatments included acupuncture, massage therapy and light therapy. Choosing a healer can be difficult - and therefore it is important to learn as much as possible about a potential holistic practitioner. When first meeting with a holistic healer it is important to ask the following questions:

What education and training does the holistic healer have? Many healers are educated medical Doctor's - regardless of the training, the certification should be from a recognizable institutions. Do not be afraid to ask the practitioner about the credentials that they hold. It is their responsibility to produce this information to the patient.

What treatment plans are offered? Some clinics offer a generalized physician and patient experience - while others focus strictly on acupuncture, massage or other types of new therapies.

Which medications are used in conjunctions, or is the treatment entirely holistic based? Many doctors have an interest in holistic medicine and therefore offer the best of both worlds, incorporating traditional medication and diagnosis based medicine, with aspects of preventative and holistic medicine.

Will the therapy or supplements interact with any medications or treatments currently occurring? Report to the healer any medication or treatments that are currently being introduced into the medical profile. Treatments given by the holistic healer could interact within the body causing negative effects.

What area does the holistic practitioner specialize in? Acupuncture? Massage? Light therapy? All of these treatments are offered at different clinics, find out before booking the appointment to have the accurate healer for the problem.

What hours is the clinic open? Or where does the practitioner work out of? Many clinics rent out spaces to other practitioners, and some practice from the home. Be sure to find out what kind of environment that the holistic healer practices out of.

Does the holistic practitioner work as a team with other certified medical professionals? Some therapies offer conjoined experience to offer the patient a well rounded care experience.

Is the holistic healer registered with the governing parties in your state or country? Registration or taking part in medical organization can add to the level of professionalism, and continuing education.

What are the costs for visits or treatments? As well, are these costs covered by an insurance plan? Holistic health treatments can be very expensive and therefore it is important to determine the costs, and if they are covered by an insurance plan before the treatment.

Does the holistic practitioner have any association with other clinics or hospitals in the area? Most don't, but it can be a good idea to check - especially if you are seeking a holistic family practitioner.

During the initial interview, many doctors are eager to answer any questions that the patient may have. It is essential that a relationship be developed between the practitioner and the patient to ensure a symbiotic relationship can occur to develop the best treatment plan possible. Using these tips will assist patients in finding the most appropriate holistic healer possible.
