Questions to Ask and Information to Know When Dealing with Wine

People from all over the world love to drink all kinds of wine whether it be white or red wine. Special occasions just are not the same if wine is not present. Here are some questions to ask yourself and information to know when you are dealing with wine.

It is very important to look at the wine itself. When you are holding a glass of wine, lean it above a paper that is white. Then look at the liquid itself and then gauge what you are able to see. Does the wine appear more watery and is possibly resembles the color brown? If so, then it could be an older kind of wine that you are dealing with. One that appears the color of violet is a wine called Beaujolais Nouveau.

The actual smell of wine can give you hints about it that will tell you something. Does the aroma of the wine give off a bit of a vanilla scent to it? This tells you that the wine was probably developed from oak barrels that have aged. Does the wine smell like fresh grapes? If it does, then you could be dealing with a wine that is young.

Eventually you will have to taste the wine which can give you better clues of what it is all about. When you drink the wine itself, hold it in your mouth for a short while to taste the flavor as much as possible. Does the wine taste somewhat dry? This will usually happen when there is not a lot of sugar present. Does the wine possibly taste stale or musty? The grapes used to make this wine could have been rotten. Throw the wine away, it is no good! Does the wine taste like toasted nuts? Then you might be dealing with a wine called Chardonnay. There are so many questions to ask yourself when tasting a wine for the first time. Be sure to take notes when tasting wine and write everything down in case you don't remember later on.

Now here is a little information about wine. If the flavor of the wine you are tasting, remains in your mouth for awhile after it has been swallowed, that is called the finish. If the flavor is somewhat enjoyable or even unlikable where the flavor vanishes rapidly, it is called short. The aroma of the wine itself is called the nose. When people refer to a wine that is mature, that means that the wine is ready for consumption. Happy tasting!
