Questions to Ask to Get to Know Someone Better

Alyssa Russo
Let's say you've just met someone and you will be going on a date or you started a new friendship with someone. You'd like to get to know them more, but you don't really know what to ask them. To avoid awkward silence, try asking the person some of these questions to keep the conversation going and show your interest in them. This is also good for people who may be shy and have a hard time thinking of what to say to someone.

I'll start with some entertainment questions. What was the last movie that you watched? Did you like the movie? What are some of your favorite movies? Who is your favorite musician? Can you sing? Do you like to dance? Do you like sports? What is your favorite sport's teams? What sports do you enjoy watching? Can you play any sports? Can you play any instruments? Did you ever do karaoke? Do you like amusement parks? Have you ever been to any cool museums? Do you like art? Who are your favorite celebrities?

Here are some questions about their lifestyle and family. Do you have any brothers or sisters? Is your family close? What is your favorite holiday? Do you have any family traditions? Do you like your job? Have you ever traveled to another country? Do you like the beach? How many girlfriend/boyfriends have you had in the past? Do you smoke? Do you drink alcohol? What kind of alcoholic beverages do you like to drink? Have you ever been to Disney World? What are some of your hobbies? Do you like to draw? Do you have a lot of close friends? Do you have a best friend? Do you like animals? What is your favorite animal? Do you have any pets? What kind of pets do you have? What are your pet's names? Did you go to college? Did you like school? What is your favorite season? What are some of your favorite foods? Can you cook? What is your favorite restaurant?

These are just some questions you can ask someone when you don't know what to say or you just want to get to know someone better. The more questions you ask, the more you will seem interested in the person you are talking to. Make sure to listen to each answer and you can ask questions based on the person's answers. For instance, if you ask someone if they went to college and they respond by saying yes, then you can ask which college they attended and what courses they studied. This way you will be good at conversing and not stuck staring at each other or wondering what the other person is thinking. When you have things to ask people, you seem more interesting to them. Share with them some of your favorite things and what you like as well. Keep up the good conversation.
