Note: To keep track of the beginning of each round, you can mark it with a safety pin and move it as your work progresses.
Round 1
Hold two strands of yarn together and make three chain stitches. Slip stitch in the first chain to form a ring. Crochet eight single crochet stitches around the ring. Note: You are starting at the top center of your crocheted beanie hat. Work each round in continuous rounds and do not join with a slip stitch.
Round 2
Single crochet twice in every single crochet stitch around for a total of 16 single crochet stitches.
Round 3
*Single crochet once in the first single crochet stitch and single crochet twice in the next single crochet stitch.*
Repeat from * to * around the round. You will end with a total of 24 single crochet stitches.
Round 4
*Single crochet once in the first two single crochet stitches, and single crochet twice in the next single crochet stitch.*
Repeat from * to *around the round. You will end with a total of 32 single crochet stitches.
Round 5
*Single crochet two times in the first single crochet stitch and once in the next seven single crochet stitches.*
Repeat from * to * around the round. You will end with a total out of 36 single crochet stitches.
Rounds 6-14
Single crochet once in every stitch around the round and repeat for nine rounds of 36 single crochet stitches each or 324 single crochet stitches total.
Round 15
*Single crochet once in the first three single crochet stitches and single crochet twice in the next single crochet stitch.*
Repeat from * to * around the round. You will end with a total of 45 single crochet stitches. This round will form the beginning of your rolled brim.
Round 16
Single crochet in every stitch around the round for a total of 45 single crochet stitches.
Round 17
Slip stitch in every single crochet stitch around the round for a total of 45 slip stitches and finish off. Weave the yarn ends under the stitches on the inside of the child's beanie hat.
