Quick and Dirty Movie Reviews: Dummy

Megan Butler

Info: Released in 2002, Directed by Greg Pritkin, Starring Adrian Brody, Milla Jovovich and Illeana Douglas.

5 Best Things About Dummy.

  1. It's a hilarious, quirky story about a 28-year-old socially awkward man (Steven) who spends way too much time with his ventriloquist dummy.
  2. It stars Adrian Brody, and he's doing the awkward, shy, endearing thing that he does best.
  3. The ventriloquist dummy is hilarious: "I got news for you .Steven. You're almost 30 years old. You quit your job to buy a doll. You failed out of community college. And you live at home with your parents. You are a loser."
  4. Milla Jovovich like you've never seen her before. And in this movie she plays a punk rock ne-er do well (Fangora) who is hilariously vulgar and crude and dresses like the unibomber. She's kind of like the female version of Walter Sobchak from The Big Lebowski. At one point she convinces Steven that the best way to ask a girl out is to show up to her house wearing a ski mask and spray paint his feelings on the front of her house.
  5. The supporting cast: It's got Ileana Douglas (Six Feet Under), Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air), and Jessica Walter (Arrested Development).
