Quick Double Duty Makeup Tips on a Budget

Getting the Most Out of Your Beauty Products

Patti Stafford
With today's economy we need to get more bang for our buck. Many of our beauty products can perform double duty. When tightening up a budget often times our makeup bag is where we try to cut the most expense out. These items work great if you're in a pinch and run out of something. Most are small enough to fit in a small handbag for a night on the town too.

Lipstick Double Duty

Your tube of lipstick can make an excellent cream blush. Our grandmothers knew this and used this trick all the time. But as times changed and blush became more readily available everyone began purchasing it. Just dab a tiny bit of lipstick on your finger, smile real big and blend the lipstick over the ball of your cheek smoothing it out towards your ear and temple just like you would applying powdered blush. Only use a small dab of lipstick as it contains deeper and more pigments than blush.

Eye Makeup Remover

Ran out of makeup remover? Try some baby oil, it's excellent for removing eye makeup. The oil breaks down the water-resistant properties in mascara making removal a breeze. It can also perform another duty in softening the skin around your eyes.

Baby Oil That Doesn't Smell Like a Baby

Do you enjoy slathering down with baby oil after a bath but not too fond of smelling like a baby? Make your own after bath body oil with mineral oil and your favorite scent in an essential oil. Baby oil is simply mineral oil and fragrance. Add your own fragrance and you've made something you'll love putting on after a shower a bath. Get several small containers with pop lids and you can make up a variety of oils. Initial cost may be a bit pricey but the end result will save you money and make you feel good by using your own favorite scents.

Lip Balm Double Duty

Lip balm can double as a cuticle cream. Simply apply it around dry, cracked cuticles and let it soak in like you would an expensive cuticle cream. Body heat helps it melt into your skin. If you plan to polish your nails afterwards be sure to clean the nails to get the oil residue off. Any oily residue will cause your nail polish to bubble and chip.

Help My Frizzy Flyaways

This is a great tip especially in a pinch if you're away from home and your hair becomes frizzy. Most ladies carry clear lip gloss in their purse. This is a great substitute for for anti-frizz serums. Simply put a small dab on your palms, rub together to get it warm and apply to frizzy hair. This is also great for a night out when you want to carry a small handbag. A tube of clear lip gloss fits easily into a clutch purse.

You Mean My Curl Cream Can Straighten My Hair?

Yes it can. Use a bit less than you would for your curls and comb through evenly. Blow dry your hair with a large round brush to straighten it creating a smooth, sleek finish.

There are so many items in our beauty bag that we can make do double duty. Sometimes we just need to spend a day experimenting to find out what else our makeup can do.
