Quick and Easy Crafts: Adorable Gift Tags

k. ferguson
I love making gifts as much as giving them away, but I can't always find my gift tags when I need them. Do you have the same problem? Sure, we all have an abundance of little paper tags or stickers during the holiday season, or we pay high prices for simple little tags for birthdays. Have you ever thought of pulling out your craft arsenal and just making a few? You could save a ton of money, and create new gift tags that accentuate your gift or that are personalized to the recipient. It is very easy and fast to make them yourself.

To make these adorable gift tags, you will need the following supplies:

4 foam sheets, 2mm thick: lavender, sparkle white, sparkle pink and sparkle red

Craft scissors

Foam stickers, beach theme

Scissors

Glue stick

Single hole punch

Spare gift tags

Pencil

Ribbon (optional)

The Surfer Tag

This is a great tag for kids of all ages. Step one is to take your white glitter foam sheet and flip it over, glitter side down. Take one of your spare gift tags, preferably one shaped like a luggage tag, and trace it on the foam. The size should be roughly 4 inches long by 2 inches wide. If you do not have a luggage tag to use as a template, then just make a rectangle of the same dimensions. Make a mark ¾ of an inch down from the top. To make the luggage tag, just snip off the two top corners inside that ¾ inch mark. Snip them at angles, but not all the way to the tip to make a point. You just want to snip off enough to give that 'luggage tag' look.

From the beach theme foam sticker collection, choose the little purple child, green waves, yellow sun, orange sunglasses and matching surfboard and adhere them to the sparkle side of the white tag, starting at the wide bottom. The sun will be at the very top just covering one of the snipped off corners. Have the surfboard sit at a jaunty angle to leave room right above it for the recipient's name. Use your hole punch to punch a single hole just beside the sun if you choose to. You can also just tape this to the present if you like.

The Easter Egg Tag

Easter is a great time of the year for giving great spring themed gifts. Many of them involve bunnies, baskets or eggs of some sort. This Easter Egg Tag is a great addition to any of those gifts. To make it, I followed these simple steps.

Step one is to take the sparkle pink foam sheet and lay it sparkle side down. Draw an oval roughly 3 ¾ inches long and 3 inches wide. Cut out your oval. Next, take your craft scissors and cut two strips just over 3 inches long, from the lavender foam sheet. Use any pair of craft scissors you like, but try to line up the designs nicely as these will be the stripes on your egg. Place your strips on your egg and mark the edges. Using your regular scissors, trim the ends of the strips with a slight curve so they match the egg shape. Lastly, use the glue stick and stick them to the sparkle side of the egg as shown in the above photo. The two new stripes on your egg are the perfect places to put the TO and FROM on your tag. If you choose, you can punch a hole at the top and string ribbon through to attach to your gift, or hang from the basket.

The Simple Heart Flower Tag

This tag is the easiest and fastest of the other two tags. You will need to practice drawing a simple flower, roughly 2 ¾ inches wide. When you have the design you like, take your sparkle pink foam sheet and draw your flower on the non-sparkle side. Cut it out and place aside. Next, take your sparkle red foam sheet and draw a heart just smaller than your flower. Using your regular scissors cut this one out as well. Lastly, take your glue stick and gently place the heart in the exact middle of your flower, sparkle side up. Since this one is smaller than the others, I don't recommend punching a hole in it. I would recommend sticking this one straight to the birthday, Mother's Day or Anniversary present.

Those are very cute! Kudos to you on the creativity. Since I tend to be last minute - my gift tag usually ends up being a piece of the wrapping paper :D
