Great Parent/Child Activity
Although you can certainly make these ahead of time and bring them in for your class parties or celebrations, decorating the cupcakes is a great parent child activity. Not only does it allow kids and parents to work together, it gives you an opportunity to develop a positive relationship with parents, as well.
Choose a Halloween Cupcake Design
Browse through the Halloween cupcake options and choose one or two that matches the interest and ability level of the children in your classroom.
Make a Supply List
Create a list of supplies you will need to complete the Halloween cupcakes. Asking parents to make the plain cupcakes is always an option, but you can purchase premade cupcakes at the local bakery. Call ahead to make sure they will have enough cupcakes on hand.
Send Home Notices
Send home notices to parents with a list of the items you need a week or two before the party. Provide an area for parents to send back a note stating what they are able to provide. Depending on your school policy, and your relationship with parents, you may wish to call them and add their contributions to a master list of items. This assures you that you will have all the items you need for decorating day.
Print Copy and Laminate
Print out and enlarge the image of the cupcakes you intend to make. Make a copy for each table and laminate. Include the directions for decorating the Halloween cupcakes. Consider having children read the directions to parents.
Cover Tables
Cover tables with disposable tablecloths and set out your supplies. Allow parents and children to work together or group children and parents into small groups.
