Barbie Crafts
Everywhere that you go in the Tri-Cities, they are serving sliders, little appetizer-sized hamburgers. Even a local nursing home in Bristol is now serving them in their dining room to patients. Here is a quick and easy way to prepare your own little sliders at home, using a shortcut.

Do you really need a slider maker?

You have probably seen the little slider makers in your favorite kitchen gadget store. Odds are that you are a kitchen gadget collector (translate addict) since you are reading this cooking column. These little machines appeared in the Bristol CVS store last year for a limited time, and, of course, I had to have one! It got used twice, and then it was relegated to the cabinet with salad spinner, potato baker, three types of George Foreman grills, etc...After all, a slider is just a little hamburger patty!

Even Faster

It is not rocket science, but forget hamburger patties because I am going to show you how you can make sliders with little frozen meatballs. They are cheap and easy to prepare. You just place them on a small roll to make a little slider. You can flatten them down a little or cut them in half. It depends somewhat on how large your rolls are.

Like Blue Circle Burger?

There is a little drive-in restaurant in Bristol that has been around for a long time called the Blue Circle Burger. Their little burgers taste a lot like Krystal Burgers, but they are better. The Irwin family who run the place are so friendly. You can eat inside on an old, original stool at the counter, sit at a metal table, or have it delivered out to your car.

If you add mustard, minced onions, and pickle relish on your slider, it will taste a lot like a little Blue Circle Burger.

Ingredients:

  • Package of Armour plain frozen meatballs
  • Package of rolls, small size
  • Cheese slices if desired
  • Pickle relish
  • Minced onion (dried or fresh)
  • Mustard

Directions:

  1. Cook meatballs in the microwave according to package directions.
  2. Place on rolls, cutting in half, if necessary.
  3. (Larger rolls may need 1 1/2 or 2 meatballs)
  4. Place 1/2 slice of cheese on each roll, if desired.
  5. Cover plate with paper towels and microwave for 30-45 seconds.
  6. Spread mustard on one side of roll.
  7. Place small amount of onion and pickle relish on roll also. If using dried minced onions, hydrate them in the pickle relish or mustard before applying.
