Quick and Easy Techniques for Interior Painting

Bring Me the Paint Please!

Painting the interior of your home will greatly improve the look and feel of your home. It can be quite a task for those who are not experienced with painting and if they don't have the proper techniques. But for the good news, it's not hard to learn the proper techniques to get the job done quick and easy. Here are some basic techniques you can use while painting the interior of your home.

Proper paintbrush techniques

When using the paintbrush, it's important that you don't overload the brush with paint. Try to only dip the brush to 1/3 of the bristle length. Make sure that you tap the bristles against the side of the paint can to help remove the excess paint left behind. Never drag the paintbrush on the rim of the paint can, this will only wear out the bristles. Another great tip to get the right amount of paint on your brush is to attach a rubber band across the top of the paint can, so you can rub the brush up against the band and the excess paint will drip right down into the can with no mess.

When you paint make sure that you use long slow strokes and only use enough pressure to flex the bristles. Always paint from the dry area to the set area, and make sure when you paint wall corners, you use the wide edge of the brush so it will come out evenly and with the best results. To keep from making lap marks in the paint, make sure that you cut in on the last stroke before the paint dries.

When you need to paint large areas, apply the paint with two to three diagonal strokes. To do this you need to hold the brush at a 45 degree angle while you paint. You only need to press hard enough to flex the bristles, this way the paint will be distributed evenly with horizontal strokes.

When you paint, all the surfaces should be smoothed by drawing the brush vertically from the top of the surface you are painting to the bottom. Make sure that you use light strokes and remember to lift the brush away from the surface with each stroke. This method works especially well with oil-based paint.

How to solve the problem with loose brush bristles

There may have been a time that you had the problem of the bristles of your paintbrush coming loose, and they end up on the wall stuck in the paint. To make sure that this problem never happens again, all you need to do is simply run a comb through the bristles of the paintbrush to get rid of all the loose and stray bristles. No more stuck bristles on your freshly painted wall.
