Quick and Easy Tips to Improve Your Digital Photography

Bridget Ilene Delaney

With technology being easily accessible these days, many people enjoy taking digital photographs. I am one of these people as digital photography allows me to take as many pictures as I want and not have to develop film. I always want great digital photographs, however, not all digital photographs turn out well. There will always be those moments that are wanted and will be snapped without any planning. However, there are also plenty of planning that can be done for some digital photographs in order to get incredible results. Here are tips that I follow and you can follow to create digital photographs everybody will enjoy viewing.

Get Close to Your Subject

Whenever I take digital photos, I have tried to make the subject the main focus of the photograph. However, there is sometimes a lot of busy background. I have learned that I should take a picture of the subject by getting close to the subject. If the entire subject fits in the photograph when the lens of my camera iis only two or three feet away, I should take the photo from that distance. By doing this, I will allow the subject to be the main focus of the photograph.

Take Photographs Outside

This is one tip that I know well. The reason I know this well is because I take photographs of concerts that happen inside and I also like to take pictures of my dog and flowers. The best photographs are taken outside when the sun is shining and it is behind my back. Doing this for digital photos always helps.

Take Photos at Sunrise and Sunset

This is also a tip that I know well. The noon and daytime sun can be harsh. However, taking photographs as sunrise and sunset, still keeping the sun behind me, makes great photographs.

Don't Center Your Subject

I often make the mistake of centering my subject in a photograph. It is good to learn that the subject does not have to be completely centered. Instead, I need to divide the screen into thirds and keep the subject at the inner side of one of the outer two thirds. As long as the photograph looks balanced, this makes a good photo.

Try Different Angles

While I know that taking photographs at different angles creates interesting photos, I fall into the rut of being the photographer standing directly in front of the subject. This seems to be normal, so I do it just like any other person. However, I capture my best photographs from strange angles such as being on the floor and looking up towards the subjects.

Get Subjects to Show True Emotions

I, just like many others, tell people to say a word to get a smile. Most often, people use the word "cheese," although I prefer words that and with the "e" sound such as "monkey" and "puppy." However, if I want a smile, I should try to make the subject laugh so a real smile is on the face and not just a posed one. I never thought of it, but solemn emotions can also make great pictures, so I can ask subjects to think of sad times in their lives.
