Quick and Fun Snacks at Walt Disney World

Don't Pass by the Walk-up Windows at Disney World

Kaye Will
If you're looking for something different, tasty, and sometimes even, gasp, cheap to snack on during your next trip to Disney World, try finding a walk-up window or kiosk. If you're already sold on mice creams and giant turkey legs, visit one of these windows and add a new must have snack to your Disney dining list.

The Joy of Tea Stand (Epcot World Showcase, China)

The Joy of Tea stand offers bottled unsweetened green and oolong teas as well as hot teas, standard coke products, and a selection of alcohols. That's not what you're here for, though. It's the flavored iced teas and slushes that make this stop worthwhile. These are nothing like the dishwater soft drink tea you'll find in nearby restaurants, the iced teas here are strong, astringent, and sweet with no powdery aftertaste. The lemon-lychee is the lightest most refreshing flavor, very welcome in the humid Florida heat, but if you only try one make it the iced oolong peach. The peach flavor is powerful and the tannic quality tastes like the flesh around a peach pit. At $3.79 a cup plus tax this doesn't qualify as a cheap find, but if you like your tea sweet, cold, and bold, you may agree it's worth the Starbucks-like price.

Bongo's Walk-up Window (Downtown Disney Westside next to Bongo's restaurant and gift shop)

Next to the $6.75-8.50 sandwiches at Bongo's walk-up window, you'll find ham croquettes and papas rellenas, fried balls of mashed potatoes stuffed with seasoned ground beef, for $0.75 a piece. Craving a turnover? Chicken or beef empanadas are only $1.25 and dessert pastelitos of guava, cream cheese, or both are $1.50 each. On weekend nights the line can get pretty long, so plan accordingly.

Aloha Isle (Magic Kingdom, Adventureland near the tree house)

If you don't like pineapple you can skip this one; if you love pineapple, Aloha Isle is a must stop. This is the only place in Disney World where you can buy a pineapple soft serve and the line sometimes reflects that. On its own the pineapple soft serve is $2.89, but I recommend the $3.99 pineapple float which is pineapple soft serve floating in pineapple juice. The soft serve sweetens the juice and keeps it cool without watering it down as you walk through the park.

Pizza at the Boardwalk Walk-up Window (Boardwalk resort, next to Spoodles)

The walk-up window at Boardwalk serves New York style pizza with the stringiest cheese I've had at Disney World yet. Large slices of cheese and pepperoni pizza are ready made for $3.49 and $3.99 respectively. For one person this isn't so much a snack as a small meal. Split a slice with someone else in your party if you have dinner reservations or make a meal of it with a full size cheese pizza for $17.99 plus an additional $1.50 for extra toppings. A little steep, but still cheaper than room service.

  • Explore the walk-up windows and kiosks of Disney World for tasty treats
At Epcot, temporary stands are often erected during restaurant refurbishments. These provide a quick, and often cheaper, taste of the park's more expensive restaurants, so give one a try if you have the opportunity.
