Quick Hair Fixes at the Office

Learn How to Maintain a Professional Look when Your Hair Goes Awry

ShawnTe Pierce

Before I became a freelance writer I used to work at a bank. During the summer months my great hairstyles seen by everyone in the morning would wilt after lunch. Good thing I learned to carry either a scrunchie or barrette/hair clip for quick hair fixes at the office. However, sometimes I had to improvise and use some office supplies so I could have a more professional look while in the workplace. Here are some quick hairstyle fixes you can do at your desk or during a quick trip to the ladies room.

Quick Bun Twist

This hairstyle fix is ideal for long hair.

  1. Pull hair back as if you were going to place it in a ponytail.
  2. Twist hair like you would for a twisted knot set.
  3. Using your free hand hold the twisted section at the base (near your roots).
  4. Begin to wind the twist around your hand, once the twist is half way around your hand, take that same hand and hold the twist down as you continue to wind it into large, coil or knot.
  5. Keep winding until you have no more hair left to wind.
  6. Secure with a scrunchie, wrap a scarf around the bun twist or secure with bobby pins.

A Faux Bun

If your hair is not quite long enough to pull into a ponytail this is for you. This style does require a scrunchie or cloth headband.

  1. Smooth hair back as you would for a ponytail.
  2. Hold hair with one hand and slide scrunchie around the section of hair you are holding.
  3. Twist scrunchie so it crosses over making a figure eight.
  4. Wrap remainder of scrunchie over hair section making sure the ends of the hair are tucked inside the scrunchie.

You should end up with a tidy little faux bun that is work-friendly.

French Twist

There are days where I forgot to put a scrunchie or hair clip in my purse when my hair would fall flat. So I had to improvise using office supplies. You can pull your hair into a French twist and secure it with a pen or unsharpened pencil. This style is better viewed rather than written out, so check out this YouTube video which gives a short tutorial on how to do this quick hairstyle fix.

Bang Control

If your bangs have decided to do their own thing you can tame once again very quickly.

  1. Using your fingers, part your hair from the edge of your ear near the temple to the other edge.
  2. Pull the section back.
  3. Hold section with one hand and secure with a barrette, hair clip or hair elastic.
  4. Finger comb the hair left loose and smooth with your hands.

These are a few quick hairstyle fixes you can perform at your desk or in the ladies room. These four styles use your hands and a hair accessory or office supply so you should have something available to achieve each hairstyle fix. If none of these strike your fancy there is always the faithful ponytail to the rescue. What is your quick hairstyle fix while at work?
