Getting quality traffic to your site is critical for you overall success, particularly if you want to have more readers or to monetize your blog. Getting targeted traffic via search engines such as Google, is one of the most popular and effective ways to increase your site visitors. In order for that to work, you need to rank more highly, generally in the top ten with the search engine results for given keywords and phrases relevant to your site. You can track your progress using a range of software tools available to help you analyse your rank and evaluate new keywords you might wish to look at for your site. These words and phrases should usually appear in your titles and the first paragraph of your blog posts to be indexed and be included toward your search engine page ranking.
For all SEO as well as for blog optimization, you should look at both the on-page and off-page site optimization. The on-page optimization includes the placement of keywords already mentioned; while the off-page optimization focuses primarily on the generation of quality backlinks directed to your blog and your blog pages or posts.
In order to optimize your on-page SEO you should look at the following:
* Keywords - the keywords are the things that are noted by the search engine bots that crawl your site and index it based upon elements such as your post title tag and the content within your blog posts. Once the site is indexed for these words, the search engine will recall your site based upon these keywords that are placed on your blog page. Hence, you will be higher in the search engines for those phrases.
* On page relevancy - Google has developed algorithms that measure the relevancy of your posts or content against the title and keywords used. By measuring this relevancy they present searchers with more suitable pages when they conduct searches on given keywords or phrases.
To maximise off-page optimization you should look at the following:
* Build a number of one way links or backlinks - the idea of link-exchanging and reciprocal linking is now considered out of date and the placement of a number of these links upon your site is seen as simply a waste of your page space. In fact it is now believed that Google frowns upon this and the best bet to boost your page rank is with a number of quality one-way links. If you are able to get links from quality sites and in particular links that originate in anchor text that reflects your keywords or keyword phrases, then you are on your way to rank highly in the search engines.
So what does this mean for bloggers? Basically, if you are trying to improve the SEO of your blog, you should start by looking at how you can increase the number of keywords without stuffing them into your posts and narrow your focus in so your content reflects the keyword content. Alongside this, you need to secure quality, keyword directed links that will drive traffic to your site as well as boost your rank.
As an example, let's say your site is about "fly fishing". If there are a large number of sites that have the words "fly fishing" and this is the anchor text for the link to your web page, then you will start climbing the ranks for that particular term. However it is not quite so simple as that.
You must also consider the quality of the link that you have placed to your site. Search engines also evaluate the quality and you can be penalised if the links are deemed spam by the search engines. Keep your links focussed on quality and quantity, so that your link building efforts yield genuine results and consider the following further hints:
* Aim to create one way links with the anchor text you have targeted (eg. "fly fishing") so that they link to your site from other relevant sites. Site such as forums are a good option to get started, and you should also aim to have a number of different link sources, not only from one site or sites with just one controller.
* Select several different keywords and phrases to use. Linking from just one site or phrase is likely to get people looking more closely and this could work against not for your site and your search engine ranking.
* Aim for a lower level and a consistent increase in the number of links pointing to your site. Having a smaller number of quality links is better than being relegated to the Google Sandbox because they think you are spamming.
Generating quality backlinks should be an ongoing effort to create genuine results. One of the most effective ways to get quality backlinks and to build them consistently is through article submission or article marketing. This requires writing and submitting your articles to the various online article directories.
You might like to start by submitting your articles at the following sites:
Ezinearticles.com
Articledashboard.com
Isnare.com
GoArticles.com
AssociatedContent.com
ArticleCity.com
ArticleHub.com
There are also automated options, such as using software like Article Submitter, which will submit articles to 300+ article directories.
If you have trouble creating content as well as posting regularly to your blog, then PLR articles are a great option. Simply rewrite the content or use an Article Content Spinner or similar rewriting software so that you can avoid duplicate content issues with the articles you post.
Join forums. If you are going to post links in forums seek out the ones that let you include a user signature with your comments. You can use your blog title and create a link based upon this that goes to your blog page. As will all efforts to boost your rank, remain consistent and post a smaller number of comments routinely to avoid the spam label. Stick with relevant sites to place your link and you will start to see the results from your efforts.
If you wish to you could get a tool like Forum Assistant Pro so that you can manage multiple forum accounts easily.
Other efforts could include posting regular comments on other related blogs. Generally you will be able to leave a comment along with your blog title and link. As always, stick with commenting on applicable blogs and make relevant comments and you will avoid being labelled a spammer by both the blogger and the search engines.
Getting started with SEO is not difficult and these tips will see you in good stead. Keep efforts consistent and you will be on track to boost your page rank and reach your goals with blog monetization and increased traffic.
