Quick Tips for Dressing with More Style and Sophistication

Ashley Webb
It is easy to get stuck in a fashion rut and start looking drab and unsophisticated. But if you are entering the professional world, looking for a promotion, or just want to update your look, I have a few quick tips for looking more sophisticated without much effort. You don't need to try them all at once, just adopting one or two of these tips can radically transform your look.

A fitted blazer is a quick fix for almost any outfit. A good blazer can add class to a pair of jeans and a t-shirt or can be paired with a sleeveless dress to make it more work appropriate. It is important to get the right fit, or the blazer will just make you look silly, so don't wear an old one you've had since the 80's with big shoulder pads. Black and navy look the most professional and can transition well from day to night.

Darker wash jeans can take your casual, everyday outfit from drab to chic. Washed out jeans can make you look chubbier (light colors are not flattering) and often resemble "mom jeans." Replacing your jeans doesn't need to be expensive; stores like H&M and Express have nice jeans for fairly cheap.

A good haircut can make a huge difference in your appearance. Check out photos online to bring with you when you go to the salon. Make sure the people in the photos have similar features and facial features to you since you want to make sure the cut will flatter you. Don't be afraid to direct your stylist if he or she is cutting it in a way you don't like. Updating your haircut can make you feel and look younger and much more stylish. For a quick fix try pulling your hair back into a ponytail or a loose bun.

Try changing from sneakers to a pair of heels for instant sophistication and glamour. If walking in heels is difficult for you, try wearing a pair of kitten heels or wedges. Even if you are only walking around the mall in jeans and a t-shirt or sweater, wearing heels will make you feel instantly sexy. Heels add height, inches to your legs, and can force you to keep better posture. They also add a slight swing to your walk, which makes you look more confident and sexy.

The right accessories can add fun and style to a boring outfit. A colorful scarf can lend brightness to your face and class to your outfit. A nice bag can also make you look instantly sophisticated. A statement necklace, bangles, or a charm bracelet will also do the trick.

Wearing a basic color scheme, like black and white is an easy way to look sophisticated and professional. Simple colors, especially black, will make you seem professional and sophisticated. When paired with one brightly colored accessory, your outfit will look both fashionable and sophisticated.

Remember, none of your new items need to be high-end expensive designer pieces. The most important thing is to get the right fit and the right colors for you.
