· The Power Of Touch - when experiencing mild pain, rubbing on some topical analgesic is the quickest fix. But nothing beats a good massage. Take time to make regular trips to an expert massage therapist. There are certain massages that can help improve your muscle functions and increase flexibility.
· Soak Up - a warm relaxing bath before bedtime can help relieve muscle pains and aching joints. An added bonus is that you'll end up sleeping like a baby through the night.
· The Hot Stuff - try heat therapy. Warm compresses, heated pools, and heat packs are a great way to lessen pain and stiffness.
· Be Cool - if you don't like sweating it out, you can try cold packs instead. If you want a quick fix, you can try applying a bag of ice or rubbing an ice cube directly to an aching joint.
· Think Ink - writing is one of the best ways to clear your mind and deal with problems. Write about your pain and the stress of living with arthritis. This serves as a therapeutic outlet where you can vent out your fears and frustrations.
· Happy Feet - you'd have to say goodbye to those fashionable but painful high heels. It's time to be nice to your feet. Get comfortable shoes that are well - padded and can give enough breathing space for your toes.
· Work out - some people think that exercise and arthritis don't go together. But this is a big misconception. If done properly and under the supervision of a certified fitness instructor, exercise is beneficial for arthritis patients. It reduces pain and stiffness in the joints and improves the body's strength and flexibility. Try pairing up with a friend to make your work - out sessions more enjoyable.
· Slim Down - extra body weight can add pressure to your joints. Maintaining a healthy weight can help you manage pain better.
· Eat fish - fish is rich in omega 3 fatty acids that can help lessen the pain and inflammation of joints in people who suffer from arthritis. Try having grilled fish at least four times a week.
· Cut down on coffee - coffee can weaken your bones. Try herbal teas instead.
· Go for braces - check with your doctor if braces are suitable for you. They can significantly reduce stress on your joints.
· Reorganize your workspace - get chairs that are forgiving to your back. Place your desktop computer at a level where your arms and wrists can still be comfortable while typing. Use devices that can assist you with lifting or carrying such as carts or office furniture that have wheels. You can also do the same thing at home.
· Have Fun - look for new hobbies or interesting activities that are absorbing enough to take your mind off of your physical pain. It could be planning a vacation to somewhere exotic, or reading books on topics that have always intrigued you.
You can still live a happy, fulfilling life even if you have arthritis. It's all a matter of having the right attitude and thinking positively. Gain strength from the support of family and friends, enjoy the tiny blessings you receive everyday, and try to channel your pain into something more creative and productive. Arthritis should be something that you can control, and not the other way around.
