Hemorrhoids can be triggered by simple things, eating the 'wrong' things or sitting down for too long in one position. Although hemorrhoid in some cases can be really painful, in reality, relief can be found in simple treatments.

Hemorrhoids can happen to anyone at any unexpected time because people don't always realize what causes it to happen. It is important to know how to treat it when it is happening, as it is important to know how to avoid it.

Whenever hemorrhoids appear, it feels uncomfortable, but we have to remember that there are a few treatments that we can do to release some of the pain. The first and most important treatment is to stop consuming food that makes hemorrhoids worse, such as caffeine, alcohol, nuts and spicy food.

The second treatment is try not to wipe or rub too hard after eliminating, as wiping or rubbing can create irritation. The next treatment is try not to push or strain when trying to 'go', and the last treatment is try not to stand or sit in the same position for a long period of time.

Once the hemorrhoids are treated and you are well again, you need to start eating healthy which will help improve your hemorrhoids. First of all, avoid any nuts or spicy food, as they can easily trigger hemorrhoids to appear. Then, you should eat more fiber, as fiber is the nutrient needed by our body to be able to 'go' easier without much pushing or straining. The last one is drink enough water every day, as it is always recommended by medical experts to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water every day to keep our body systems working well.

Now, let's consider a few alternatives in case the hemorrhoid symptoms worsen.

Most without prescription medicines sold in the drugstore are only safe for short-term use. If the symptoms do not disappear after a few days, of if they look worse, then you need to see a doctor right away and don't wait until the hemorrhoids get much worse or even untreatable.

However, to give temporary relief in minor cases, or while waiting to see a doctor, there are a few useful items that can easily be bought in the drugstore, such as, hydro cortisone cream. This is an anti-inflammatory which can help bringing hemorrhoids down.

Soothing cream for pain relief or diaper rash cream for babies can sooth the pain as they contain zinc oxide, or if you need a temporary numbing properties, you can use aerosol sprays. Also, after going to the bathroom, instead of wiping or rubbing the area using a normal toilet paper, you can try patting gently using baby wipes, as baby wipes are gentle on the skin.

Another treatment worth trying is to put ice on the hemorrhoids to soothe them, and follow it by putting warm compress for about 10 minutes. This treatment, or alternatively, a sitz bath, can give a significant pain relief for bad hemorrhoids. However, if the case is really bad, you should have a bed rest. Bed rest will relieve pressure on the anal muscle, which in turn will relieve the hemorrhoids.

One thing that people don't often consider seriously, moisture is bad for hemorrhoids. Hygiene products that have dyes or perfumes can and most likely will make hemorrhoids worse and even cause irritations. Therefore, avoid the use of those products and wear cotton undergarments to keep yourself dry.

Finally, which ever treatment you choose, you should consult with a doctor before proceeding and in the case of hemorrhoids does not disappear or even getting worse after a few days of treatment.
