Of course, it is like me to buck the traditional. Curls are out, so of course I wanted them. Actually, I just want my baby fine, thin hair to look like it had some body.
Because I wanted "wash and wear" hair, I had to mind good products that would define my curls without adding frizz. I settled on Quidad products because, after all, they bill themselves as the "curl experts." I guess the question left to answer is do they live up to that claim. Let's take a look.
Many beauticians agree that the foundation of curly hair is proper treatment. Curly hair, if handled improperly, can break, split and frizz.
Quidad seems dedicated to maintaining the health of curly hair while also show casing its beauty. Because of that, the company provides a variety of products aimed at achieving the goal.
I purchased a kit with four products. They included the Curl Quencher Moisturizing Shampoo, the Moisture Lock Conditioner as well as the Climate Control Heat and Humidity Gel and the Botanical Boost Boosting Spray. Over the course of the next few articles, I'll review each product individually.
I love Quidad's Curl Quencher. I have extremely dry and delicate hair. That is due in part to my natural texture. The rest is because I color-treat my hair to cover gray.
Curl Quencher is gentle enough for processed hair, whether it is color-treated, permed or even straightened. It is also great for hair that is regularly styled with heat. All of that is because of the shampoo's natural hydrating properties.
I also love that Curl Quencher cleans hair well, without every drying it out or making it appear frizzy. Hair feels soft, looks shiny and healthy and is more manageable than before you began. That is rare.
While I'm trying to get away from lathering shampoos with sulfates, I do actually like Curl Quencher's luxurious lather. It smells delicious, feels like silk, and rinses out easily. What's not to like?
Ingredients include chamomile, citric acid, cocomide, corn oil, fragrance, hydrolized wheat protein and starch, vitamin A, vitamin B5, vitamin E, water and wheat amino acids. It also contains ammonium laureth sulfate, cetrimonium chloride, DEA, cocomidopropyl betaine, decyl glucoside, DMDM hydantonin, guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, glycol stearate, methyl gluceth-10, methylparaben , phytanitriol, propylene glycol, sodium chloride and sodium cocoyl isethionate.
Using Curl Quencher is easy. Begin by thoroughly dampening hair. Next, pour a nickel size amount of the shampoo into the palms of your hands. Then, using the fingers, massage the shampoo throughout the scalp and hair.
Do not scrub with the nails or bunch the hair up together. Just work section by section until all of the hair is cleansed. Bunching can cause hair breakage and frizz by weakening the hair cuticle.
Rinse the hair with warm water. Make sure to rinse thoroughly so that no shampoo remains behind.
Follow with Quidad conditioner and/or styling products as desired. While you can use other conditioners and products in conjunction with Quidad, it works best when used in conjunction with its own product line. The end result will be even more dramatic.
Here is my summary review:
Effectiveness: 5 stars. Quidad Curl Quencher delivers on its promises. It helps make beautiful, well defined and soft curls.
Smell: 5 stars. Curl Quencher has a fresh scent that is pleasant.
Packaging: 4 stars. Curl Quench comes in a frosted bottle with a black top that presses open. The label is white with a blue and silver artistic design. The Quidad label is prominently displayed at the top.
Ease of storage: 5 stars. The plastic bottle measures 7" in height by just less than 2" in diameter. It should be easy to store almost anywhere. That includes a medicine cabinet, underneath the bathroom or kitchen sink or in a vanity drawer.
Availability: 5 stars. Quidad products are available through Home Shopping Network, through specialty salons and through the company's website.
Price: 4 stars. Quidad products are not inexpensive. However, if you want products that will help keep your hair healthy, it might be worth the extra price. I paid $29.99 for my kit of four products. That meant each one retailed for just over $7 each.
Final rating: 4.4 stars.
FINAL RATING:
5 stars = outstanding
4 stars = good
3 stars = average
2 stars = below average
1 star = poor

Now that my hair is curly (an unexpected result of chemo), I have been looking for products that promise softness. I've never heard of this brand, and I just purchased a different kit, but when I run out, I'll be looking for these. Thank you.
