Quote of the Week, by Francois Duc La Rochefoucauld

Three Quotes of Great Wisdom

robritt
Francois de La Rochefoucauld was a classic French author and moralist who was also a cynic. He thought everyone was selfish and hypocritical , but his work impressed a lot of famous people and most of what he said, in the briefest possible way, was right on the spot. Although he wrote a lot of opinions, he only wrote two books in his lifetime. Partly, this was due to the fact that he was wounded and almost blinded in war, after that he was interested in literature and politics

He was born in Paris in 1613 and died in 1680. He was married and had eight children. I wonder if his kids ever listen to him????

Here are three of his pieces of wisdom, all of which hold true, even today

"Our virtues are most frequently but vices in disguise."

"It is far easier to be wise for others then to be so for oneself"

"The height of cleverness is to be able to conceal it. "

I like the second one. I am much better at giving advice than I am for making my own good decisions. Go figure.
