H L Mencken was a Satirist Who Criticized the American People for Their Sloppy Use of the English Language
Henry Louis Mencken was born in Baltimore in September of 1880 and died there in 1956 He was famous as a satirist, wrote essays and an American journalist who also was an editor but spent a lot of his life writing critics about Americans and their life style. During the early part of 20th century he was a very influential writer.
He is the man who dubbed the Scopes trial "monkey" trial and was know often as the Sage of Baltimore but he is probably best remembered for writing a huge series of books on how people in the United States spoke the English language.
