Henry David Thoreau was born in 1817 and died 1862, but his words of wisdom live on today as if he has just spoken them. He was a naturalist, philosopher, and abolitionist who is probably best know for Walden Pond, because he lived a simple life in natural surroundings. He wrote about Civil Disobedience and his opposition to government. He was an author and a poet who wrote over twenty volumes of poetry. Today he is still a source for modern day environmentalist who quote him often. He wasn't really against government so much, as just thought we could have a better government then the one we have. I think most people would agree with him today
"Not until we have lost the world, do we begin to find ourselves and realize where we are and the infinite extent or our relations. The language of friendship is not words, but meaning. It is an intelligence above language,"
by Henry David Thoreau
