Quote of the Week, from the Talmud

The Talmud is a Record of Rabbinic Discussions Pertaining to Jewish Law, Ethics, Customs, and History

robritt
"He who has more learning than good deeds is like a tree with many branches but weak roots; the first great storm will throw it to the ground. He whose good works are greater than his knowledge is like a tree with fewer branches but with strong and spreading roots, a tree which all the winds of heaven can not uproot."

Put another way:
Alexander Pope said,
"A little learning is a dangerous thing; drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring: there shallow draughts intoxicate the brain, and drinking largely sobers us again."

Meaning A little knowledge can cause people to think they are more expert than they really are. No one knows everything! These are really great words.

Isn't that the truth. I have much more patience and respect for people who are not intoxicated with their own self-knowledge and worth. Good one Robbit!

I would have interpreted it to mean a person with great knowledge but without good actions is a shallow person who will fall at the slightest disturbance.
