Quotes to Commemorate Mother's Day

C.Fiore
Mother's day is a time for sentiment and reflection. We often do not tell our mothers how much they have touched our lives. Those of us who are mothers, like to celebrate the thing that has become the very core of our being. Here are a few quotes that can be used in handmade cards, pasted on scrapbook pages, added to a autograph picture frame as a gift to your mother or wife, or simply to reflect upon this Mother's Day.

"A mother's love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity, it dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path." -- Agatha Christie

How true. How many mothers would do anything to protect their child. A mother's love for her child is the strongest bond imaginable. A mother can muster any strength from the core of her being for her child.

"A mother is not a person to lean on but a person to make leaning unnecessary." -- Dorothy Canfield Fisher
A great mother is one who prepares her child for life and sets them free.

"I really learned it all from mothers." -- Dr. Benjamin Spock
Don't you wish all doctors thought like this sometimes? How many times were you at the pediatrician and you had a doctor that really only was half listening to you? Dr. Spock, you are an intelligent man who knows that no one knows the child like a mother knows her child.

"If there were no schools to take the children away from home part of the time, the insane asylum would be filled with mothers." -- Edgar Watson Howe
This one makes me laugh. It is a nervous laugh that has me rocking back and forth, but a laugh nonetheless.

"Motherhood is like Albania-- you can't trust the descriptions in the books, you have to go there." -- Marni Jackson
How insightful. Nothing can prepare you for motherhood. Reading the books doesn't put you in the know. It is in the living it, then you know true love..... and frustration.

"Being a full-time mother is one of the highest salaried jobs... since the payment is pure love." --Mildred B. Vermont
I love this quote, because it puts such a positive spin on being a mother. We are often told that being a mom is one of the hardest jobs, a thankless job. In fact, there are those out there that research what a mother should make, given all she does in a day. While I agree that it is the hardest and most important job you will ever have, why not celebrate it and focus on what you get in return, love, joy and happiness.
