R. Kelly: "RISE UP" to Benefit Virginia Tech

saba,ink
Singer, R. Kelly has written "Rise Up," a song about healing in the aftermath of the April 16 shootings at Virginia Tech. A gunman killed 32 people and himself on the university's campus in Blacksburg, Va.

According to press information, "Rise Up" "will be available digitally May 15 (retail link coming soon), and 100 percent of the net proceeds from its sale will go to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund. Kelly, 40, wrote the inspirational ballad after watching the events unfold on television while he was on route to a performance, said Jive Records, Mr. Kelly's Label.

The lyrics include the lines: "Rise up, when you feel you can't go on, rise up, and all of your hope is gone, rise up, when you're weak and you can't be strong."
The Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund was created to provide assistance to the victims of the families, as well as grief counseling and other needs for those affected by the shootings.

I thought I was the only one who knew about this Saba I'm jealous. I mentioned it on the side on my own review and you made an entire article out of it, great work as usual. If anyone hasn't heard it yet, there's a good reason that record was #1 it's his best work in years.

Thanks to everyone for sharing . I was thinking the same thing when I saw Rise Up partnered with FLIRT...I guess it is the "duality" that seems to define R KELLY!

However, here's my issue. I've loved every single album that R. Kelly put out. Why he would wait until he's in serious legal trouble to put out such a demeaning album to women (calling them all kinds of bitches, hoes, complaining about women, and then goofy lyrics about toilet paper in jail being rough and Wal~mart prices) and THEN put out such a legitimate, positive song will mess up his sales and his credibility even more. He didn't double UP; he doubled DOWN.

Gary, Why in the world do you keep talking about yourself in third person? Ha, ha, ha. Anyway, although R. Kelly's album seriously disappointed me (a bunch of bitch/ho/not-really-singing songs), I'm going to have to defend dude on this one. First of all, I went to elementary and high school with a BUNCH of girls who took pride in lying about their age to attract older women. On top of that, I don't believe in statutory rape. If she's willing to do it, it's not rape. If she was dizzy enough to let herself get peed on, I don't have any sympathy for her. Although I think that was absolutely nasty, I won't stop buying his music because he had sex with some young girls who did it WILLINGLY. Now, had he actually raped someone, I'd stop supporting his music cold!

G=man's comments: I don't think of R Kelly as a "child molester" just a typical guy. He's not much different than any star taking advantage of young fans. Elvis with his 14 year old Priscella comes to mind. Slash from Guns n' Roses gloated in a Rolling Stone interview about purposely abusing girl fans. And so on.

No matter what R. Kelly does he can never go back on all the wrongs he did. He talks about himself as though he's the Barry Bonds of R&B. Peep my post about him

Hey, I don't make the news, I simply report it!
These are all valid comments and perhaps, this will be the next "water cooler" topic...over to you G-MAN....And in other news...

Hey! (smiles) Good article "Flash". Okay, you KNOW The G-man ALWAYS has something to say, so here we go. While I understand his heart is in the right place, R. Kelly, and his "benevolence", is going to face tremendous scrutiny and public outrage, especially in extremely conservative and predominately white states. African-Americans seem to be more tolerant when it comes to R. Kelly's past indiscretions, as many still support his work as an artist. That is astounding to me because unlike the Michael Jackson case, R. Kelly was caught ON TAPE! I don't believe whites are going to be as tolerant. I also suspect that people, and the media, are going to have MAJOR issues with this because of his reputation as child molester. Furthermore, this is going to initiate a debate in the country about whether or not charities should receive or accept contributions from people charged or convicted of very serious crimes. Watch what happens, and remember The G-man called it FIRST!
