Rachel Zevita Top 24 American Idol Season 10 Performance - Fiona Apple's "Criminal"

Jimmy Boyd
Rachel Zevita is a singer who first gained attention when trying out for American Idol during Season 6. She came back to try again in Season 10 and was picked by the judges and producers to appear in the Top 24 voting round. According to spoilers over at Rickey.org, Rachel sang Fiona Apple's "Criminal" for her Top 24 performance.

Initial Thoughts:

Rachel was an interesting contestant when she tried out during Season 6. She definitely has some versatility, being able to sing everything from opera to rock. Unfortunately, Zevita seems to be good at many things but not great at anything. No doubt, she has talent. But there is a relative lack of emotion in her voice.

I have no doubts that she can sing Fiona Apple's "Criminal" as long as she has a good day. But like everything else she has done for American Idol Season 10, it will be relatively average.

Zevita tries to market herself by dressing funny, hooting and hollering or doing other things for attention. It all comes off so desparate, and that means she has pretty much no chance of winning.

Prediction:

It is being reported that Rachel got bad comments from the judges. While this is certainly not helpful, it is likely just going to be what the Idol viewers are thinking, anyway. Rachel does not have the finesse to sing great ballads or the power to sing rock. Even her opera (what she is trained in) is just average because there is nothing special about her vocal tone. She has a great range, but it is virtually emotionless.

Look for Zevita to be eliminated and probably not get a wildcard spot.

Results:

Rachel and the other girls' Top 24 performances were taped and are broadcast on Wednesday, March 2, 2011. Tune in to see her sing "Criminal."

She pulls off a black cape to start the performance. She works the stage good, but the vocals are fairly inconsistent. Like most of these song picks, it is a bit too fast. The vocal was shaky in spots. She has good stage presence, but it was fairly disappointing.

Steven said it was too Broadway. Jennifer says Rachel should have displayed her vocals more. Randy said it just didn't work.
