Racial Profiling: Does Discrimination Exist in Modern American Society?

Drew
Discrimination exists in modern American society to the same extent which discrimination exists anywhere. A strand of discrimination which remains particularly strong in American society today exists towards the Arabic population. As an Arabic member of American society today, one might experience ignorant disgust or fear directed towards themselves. Racial profiling, a pressing issue of modern times, largely targets people of Arab descent or appearance. Discrimination can also take the form of physical abuse, with people assaulting Arabs. Also, this aggression may remain in the context of verbal abuse and threats. Self-withheld prejudices alone affect how one treats another. When one associates their peer with a vastly unrelated person, on account of their common race alone, who did injustice to the United States, one may afford their peer and his ideas unfair opportunity or unjust consideration.

Racial profiling remains an issue which thoughtfulness to everyone's equal opportunity must be applied. If not, cries of discrimination will arise. In the case of modern American society, racial profiling remains an affordable, rapid method of streamlining any screening procedures. The question, however, does not lie in racial profiling's effectiveness, but rather in the morality of the application of such profiling. For maximum effectiveness while keeping costs to a minimum, racial profiling must come to use with other methods of profiling used in conjunction. For example, If a Caucasian male carrying a large backpack, and separately, an Arab male with nothing but normally fitting garments on his person walk to a security checkpoint which only has the resources to investigate one of the subjects, logic dictates the security personnel present should check the Caucasian male because his backpack could carry dangerous items, whereas the man of Arab descent has little chance of carrying any items which may not concern the public's safety.

Likewise, discrimination can become a physical entanglement as well as one of security concern. Any type of bullying committed towards an individual no matter what the circumstances remains discrimination by the definitions of bullying and discrimination alone. Discrimination applies whenever physical harm inflicted by one party comes to another not under the premise of solely coincidental circumstances. People of Arabic descent residing in America today become prone to malice in this physical variant because the attacks upon the United States which were committed by terrorist organizations, largely populated by Arabs. Discrimination may ensue as a physical occurrence because of the loss of life and property, all physical damages, come to the view of the affected as equitable through response in kind. This grossly inaccurate assumption not only neglects to consider the wrongs of retaliation, but the injustice of associating all Arabs to terrorist organizations.

Similarly, discrimination can pertain to verbal abuse and threats. Also within this category remains the issue of trust discrimination. All issues of trust discrimination issues include the forewarning of discrimination remains a necessity to trust, however, unjust discrimination slows progress immensely by not using the full extent of one's resources. Employers my not offer the same opportunities to people of Arabic descent, then to an equally qualified person of any other descent due to stereotypes formed by prevalent Arabic terrorist organizations. Therein lies discrimination toward anyone of Arabic descent. Any predisposition which one may feel because of ones Arabic appearance becomes and remains discrimination.

Modern American society contains discrimination of every type imaginable towards all types of sub-groups of society. People of Arabic descent, specifically, become targets to those perpetuating the myths and stigmas which feed discrimination. Racial profiling attacks the framework of society when used irresponsibly and without just cause through logical reasoning. Arabic Americans receive discrimination through physical abuse. This physical abuse may stem from prejudices developed from the knowledge of prevalent terrorist organizations, mostly consisting of Arabs. From the same stem comes discrimination from verbal sources and threats through whatever means. A lack of trust given to a person because their ethnic background remains Arab also stems from this type of discrimination. People of Arabic descent in America today remain in a position where they receive discrimination to a severe degree.

People that are not of Arabic desent but mistaken to be are subject to bigotry from strangers. Police justify profiling as a way to keep tabs of who belongs in a neighborhood. Same reason for homeless profiling.
