Racism-The Last Republican Stronghold

When All Else Fails, Tell that Black Boy to Sit Down!

Rose Richmond
When this Presidential race started and Barack Obama was introduced as a potential candidate, my first impression was damn, you go man! Then almost immediately another thought crossed my mind.

Growing up in the Deep South of the 60's, my brain was already programmed to say, "I hope they let him make it". "I bet they don't"!

Because my dad was 1/2 Cherokee Indian, I had grew up hearing him called a "Half Breed". I didn't equate his struggle to the black struggle until recently. I grew up with blacks and were friends with many. I couldn't figure out why people treated them so bad. After being married for 16 years to a racist, then having two daughters who married black men, I have seen several different sides over the years.

As in another story, I kept my two mixed grandchildren for awhile in sunny Florida. The experience was a game changer for me.

Now, in this race for the White House, we are seeing the ignorance really expose itself. No matter what race you are in this country today, this election is going to divide this country as never before. The U.S. has NEVER ALLOWED a BLACK Man or woman to hold any office this high. Condileeza Rice has her position because even though George Bush is an asshole, he comes from a part of Texas where he had no choice but to recognize diversity. Women and Blacks have come a long ways, but to the Good Ole Boys of this world, they "Ain't fixing to be no damn President"!

The stakes in the race to Washington are not your typical run of the mill Presidential Race. The implications and the unwarranted fear of the unknown in this particular race is drawing lines between young and old, black and white and the other people who are just not sure.

You would assume(we know what that word means) in an age of the internet, the many advancements we have made and the passing of several generations, America would be more united to see the country work right vs the fight being about the color of someone's skin.

We are at a crossroads in America in 2008.

In this very critical election we are watching the desperation of the white man. We are watching a scenario that could cost a man his life and could cost a family their loved one. Why?

The Republican Big Wigs, John McCain and Sarah Palin have decided that they are going to try to win at ANY COST. McCain is a desperate man. The Republican backers who have set out on this journey are going to use every single thing, right or wrong to make sure they can keep their jobs and keep screwing up America.

They have lied from the beginning. They have used every trick in the book to discredit and destroy Barack Obama. Nothing yet has seemed to be the "BIG GAME CHANGER". They tried to say he wasn't qualified. They used his community organizer status against him. They have brought up the William Ayers thing. They lied about his tax plan and his healthcare plan. Even after the Fact Checkers SAID, Those are all lies or gross exaggerations!

Still they continue to say it over and over and over and over...... Cindy McCain stood on that stage yesterday and told the crowd and through the media coverage, told America that Obama refused to help the soldiers in Iraq. She dragged McCain's son who is over there as a pity point to let the lie stand. All the while Sarah Palin is standing behind her nodding yes, yes.

Sarah Palin stood at a rally in Jacksonville, Florida a few days ago and during her speech, people were yelling, "KILL THE TERRORIST"! They said this because she continued to point blank say Obama was "palling" around with terrorists. She kept saying it and instead of stopping her speech and denouncing the person, she smiled and kept talking. She was condoning the comments. He had just before that, stopped a "heckler" when he made a derogatory comment about her, and said, "Bless you sir, my son is in Iraq defending your right to protest". What? Another instance, a clown in the audience yelled up at a "Black" camera man and said, "Sit down boy"!

I would be willing to "betcha" there were many more comments that the sound didn't pick up, that were more prolific in the wording. After living in Florida for 3 years, I know there were.

According to the Huffington Post, For the second time in three days, the speaker at a McCain campaign rally used Barack Obama's middle name "Hussein" in a demeaning fashion to ignite the crowd.

I said when this started, the racists will come out of the woodwork. Well, they have come out and are not through yet! The attacks will undoubtedly get much worse. The Republicans have one last "stronghold" of hope. They are betting on the ignorance going to the extreme. They don't care about the outcome.

If you don't believe that, you need to read some history very soon. The KKK for many years run the South. Even though because of the influx of younger, more intelligent blood in the system, it isn't totally controlled anymore by these clowns, they still have the upper hand in many cases. And in the deep dumb parts, the regular people are even more ignorant.

When you see the Republican base that will not stand up and speak against this, you are seeing the redneck, stars and bars carrying crazies start to emerge.

Republican's are desperate. This campaign has become so desperate that they will get as ignorant and backwards as they can. Regardless of the impact on the country. Regardless of the impact on the generations of young people coming up that will have to work for 20 more years to reverse the damage of one campaign.

We have been working for civil rights and civil liberties for over 30 years in America. We stand up and denounce the mistreatment of people across the globe. We send billions of dollars to support human rights all over the world. We supposedly went to Iraq to free those people of the "OPPRESSION" of the government.

Yet the supposed "WAR HERO" and his "CRONIES" along with that disrespectful clown from Alaska are standing in city after city and "preaching" racism and "promoting" intolerance and violence against a man who has been "PROVEN" not to be that. He stood in that debate and pointed his bony finger in Obama's direction and called him "That One". He refused to shake his hand during a last respectful gesture from Obama. Cindy McCain totally ignored Michelle Obama.

Sean Hannity had a guy on who was an Anti-Semite and allowed him to talk all he wanted to without interruption. Yet he denied it when confronted. Scared to admit you are a racist, Sean Hannity?

What happens if one of those dumb ass rednecks from deep in the heart of dumbassville, hurt or kill Barack Obama because McCain and Palin have promoted that. That would be "inciting violence and maybe an accessory right?

Neither John McCain, Cindy McCain nor the Beauty Queen Palin can even come close to being able to identify with a black person in rural dumbassville. Not even for one tiny second. They can't begin to imagine the backlash of violence they are inciting for not only Barack Obama, but for all of the black people who support him and the sane white people who support him.

Their insidious need to WIN for WIN sake is going to cause a ripple effect across this country that has not ever been seen. I don't think anybody with an ounce of sense will continue to sit by and let it continue to happen. People are going to speak up and speak out. America cannot go back to the 60's and before.

America should see this for what it is. The ones who go along with this behavior should be put out of office. The Republican Heads that are helping promote this behavior should be ashamed they have come to this. They should just quit and go home.

Our country is dying, our economy is shot in the ass, our soldiers are dying for a lie, millions of children have no healthcare, but John McCain and the Republicans are more concerned with the color of a man's skin and lies, than our country. Why, so he can add to his legacy and Palin can say she broke the glass ceiling. Neither deserve that privilege.

If they weren't they would stop talking about lies and start fixing things and telling us their plans, then they at least would look less ignorant. It is sad that the staunch supporters are willing to let America fall because they can't admit they don't want a "BLACK MAN" as our leader. That must really be a kick in the teeth of the Good Ole Boy Network! Or what teeth they have left to get kicked.....Sad the stupidity and stubbornness of people.

No matter your color, if you are tired of this kind of stuff both in our country and our government then this is the time for the "Real Change". Not only should you be concerned with who is going to be President, but who is going to be the new DA in your town. Who will be the next Representative YOUR STATE sends to Washington to speak for you.
You better do your research and get to work. We are making history in this election, but if we stand idly by and continue to let ignorance be our guide, this country is not going to be FREE much longer.God Bless Barack Obama! Don't let the ignorance hurt him. This has to stop now.

The World is watching what Americans do in this fight. Will we stand up and denounce the Good Ole Boy Network and what they have done to this country or will we sit down and keep taking the backwards leadership of the Republican Party?

Those who wish to promote Obama on the basis of race, either because they, too, are black, or because they have some strange sense of "white guilt", are being just as racist as those who deny Obama their support on the basis of race.

I'm sorry the Damocrats are equally guilty of this. It is a problem country wide, no matter what party y'all belong to. Thank You fer sharin' your opinions. Mizpah. ;-}}>

It really is a shame that it comes down to stuff like this.

I am so sorry that your family and grandchildren had to endure that. It is so wrong. I remember getting in trouble with my parents when I grew up in SC. Schools integrated and I was in junior high. There were eight black kids among 750 whites. From the minute they got on the bus that first day, they were treated unmercifully. Although I was raised to hate blacks, my heart immediately saw the terror in one girl's eyes and my heart melted. I tried to be a friend and I got in big trouble at home. I've watched many bi-racial children and couples go through this. I hate it! If I saw racism (from my perspective) in either of the candidates I support, that would be a deal breaker for me. I hope your family and grandchildren receive lots of love and know that all of us are not like that.

We are each judged according the good we do. You keep working at it the way you have to and I will as well. I guess growing up watching blacks degraded past the point of reason has made me a rebel. I have 4 mixed grandchildren. I experienced the racism in Florida firsthand. I have had people take their children from the park because of race. John McCain has proven on many occasions his opinion of other races. Sarah Palin is proving it now. I understand and appreciate your willingness to believe. Calling names doesn't fix anything. Conversation and calling it out when you see it, increases knowledge and awareness. I am just a person who confronts the wrongs in a different way via the gift God has blessed me with. The ability to write and a passion for right. Thanks for the comments and reads..

Rose, at least we can respectfully disagree. Too much ugliness on these posts and elsewhere. Without going into a lot of detail, having lived in FL unti four years ago and now in deep south Alabama, I have seen A LOT of racism from blacks against whites. Then I turn around and see it whites against blacks. Then I talk to hispanics who think this about blacks. And on and on. The point is we just keep working at getting people to stop. Someone asked me how I'd feel if my son married a black. I said, "just fine." I don't believe McCain or Palin are racists. I don't believe I have turned away so as not to see. Again, thanks for not calling me names because we disagree. The best we can all do is to be a class act!

Born and bred in the hatred of the south, but I have changed. I do nonprofit work among several races. I have done overseas trips in totally black communities. But, I disagree with your article. You seem to spew a lot of venom yourself. I don't think they are showing racism nor do my black friends. It was Hilary and Bill who said that Obama tried to play the race card and it infuriated the Clintons and others. So, it's in the "ears" of the beholder.

  • kelly m.10/9/2008

I am ashamed of Sarah Palin, right after a civl debate, playing the race card so blatantly by calling Obama someone who consorts with terrorists. McCain has been even worse, but he is known as someone who oftern shoots off his mouth without thinking. To appeal to hatred within Americans to extract their votes is beneath contempt, but it has earned my contempt. Somewhere Barry Goldwater, Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, etc. roll over in their graves.

Great article. The Republicans are really shaming America. Their racial slurs and Machiavellian tactics are alarming. It is too late for McCain....he will lose.
