Radar Online: Octomom Nadya Suleman to Go on Welfare Soon

Why is America Not Surprised?

Carly Hart
Octomom, otherwise known as Nadya Suleman, is soon to go on welfare, according to Radar Online, who reports that the unwed mother of 14 is getting low on funds since no network wants to air a reality show of her raising her large brood of children and no publisher is, as yet, willing to publish her book. Quoting sources close to Suleman, it's alleged that the Octomom will be back on welfare very soon.

Was welfare inevitable?

The cost of raising a child in its first year averages between $11,650 and $13,530 for a two-child, two-parent household, according to the USDA. Multiply that by eight, and Nadya Suleman was already facing a steep bill for her eight bundles of joy when she gave birth to them in early 2009. Now, compound that with the costs of rearing her previous six children and it was painfully obvious the moment the news of the octuplets hit the news wire that Suleman was in over her financial head.

Since Nadya Suleman was not already independently wealthy, had no rich sugar daddy willing to take her and her bustling brood on, and had no winning lottery ticket for millions of dollars, the panacea for her money woes was to pursue the Kate Gosselin approach and try to land a reality TV show to help pay the bills.

If Kate Gosselin can get a show (even after breaking up with Jon) then why not Nadya Suleman?

Kate Gosselin of Jon & Kate Plus 8 fame is now a single mother. Though she has six fewer children than "Octomom" Nadya Suleman, she is able to bring home the bacon with her own reality TV show (sans Jon), TV appearances (such as on Dancing With The Stars), and a few book deals, while Suleman got nowhere on landing her own show, despite the fact that America has followed the train wreck of her life on sites like Radaronline.com and in magazines such as Star with as much zeal as they have followed the divorce of Jon and Kate. If America is so obviously interested, then why can't she sew up a book deal or land a show?

Comparing the two women, their lives are very similar. I wonder, though, if Nadya Suleman were perky and blonde like Kate Gosselin, would we be watching her on TLC too?

An inevitable result -- or, I would rather hope like Robert (below) - that God could help.

Welfare... not a surprise. Unfortunately... Great job!

I think there are a lot of factors that come into play in why Nadya isn't getting a reality show. For starters, as Andrea said, Jon and Kate didn't intentionally set out to have more children than they could afford to care for, whereas Nadya did. She couldn't support the six she had, let alone another one, much less eight more. Also, the train-wreck that Jon and Kate have made of their children's lives comes into play. We've seen this once normal mother turn into this nightmare quasi-mother from heck, damaging her kids and her relationship with their father in the process. If two normal parents can become such non-parenting media mongerers, how much worse would a parent who's already showed signs of severe mental instability become? My heart goes out to all 22 of the children involved, both the eight Gosselin kids and the 14 Suleman kids.

The difference is Nadya was not able to support the family she had when she gave birth to 8 more children. We dont respect her for wanting more children when she cant support the ones that she has. Jon and Kate were able to support the twin and could have supported one or two more children when they went to the fertility doctor.

I am sorry for the kids (especially the older ones). They have to live through the uncertainty of their living situation and ridicule of their mom. Not a good way to grow up.

She will make it with Gods help!

amazing I think the world knew this was the direction this woman was going to be headed in when she first hit the news.
