Radiant ceiling heating systems: How they work
Radiant ceiling heating systems are based on the principle that heat will rise to the top of your home. The radiant heaters can be installed anywhere in your home, not just on the ceiling. Radiant floor elements are usually the easiest to install, but heaters can also be placed inside the walls to achieve the same effect.
Radiant ceiling heating systems: Better for the air
There are several advantages to using a radiant ceiling heating system instead of a traditional home furnace. Radiant heating systems rely on the natural tendency of heat to rise rather than using a blower. This eliminates the need for furnace filters and vents. Radiant home heating systems can also be better for people with allergies because it does not involve blowing dust particles through the air. The moisture content of the air remains stable with a radiant ceiling heating system because no water vapor is expelled into your home.
Radiant ceiling heating systems: Easier to maintain
Maintenance time and costs are generally lower with a radiant home heating system because there are fewer moving parts. Because the system is based on a heating element instead of pipes and blowers, there are less problems with leaks and air pressure issues. The heating system is also more efficient and can significantly cut your energy bills because it does not require any power to distribute the heat once the heating element warms up.
Radiant ceiling heating systems: Where to install
Homeowners also have more flexibility when installing a radiant ceiling heating system. Unlike a centralized system, the heating elements can be installed in any room of the home. Attaching a separate thermostat to each section of the house makes it easy to control the temperature in an individual room instead of waiting for heat to be distributed through the entire house. Most radiant heating systems can also be used for outdoor applications, such as a patio or greenhouse. Be sure to protect the heating element from the weather if you are using a radiant system outdoors.
