Dave Glover, the No. 1 afternoon radio talk show host in St. Louis, called for attendees of the August 27 Rally for America event to engage in a "Second American Revolution," one in which the individual takes responsibility for his or her own actions and takes back the power that has been slowly given over to government over the generations. Glover's remarks, which were spoken without notes to a crowd of several thousand at Frontier Park in historic St. Charles, MO, were part of an annual program designed to honor veterans and raise money for the local USO. Before continuing with the program, which included an address by Marine Ltc. Shane "Rhino" Tomco and posting of the colors, Glover elaborated on how he views the relationship between the individual American and the government structure as originally designed.

The Founding Fathers, Glover said, were not superhuman, but found themselves at a crossroads in history. "I believe that we are at a true crossroads in history, and it's time for a Second American Revolution," he said. Glover explained that since the founding of the United States, the government has become many times larger than intended, and has slowly absorbed powers it was never meant to exercise to the point where the spirit of the citizen is nearly broken. "We are just on the brink of having our spirit broken by our own government. People out there have given up -- standing out there with their hands out waiting to see what the government is going to give them. Any time you take something from the government, it comes with a price. And that price is more power for them, and less freedom for you."

To Glover, the time is now for a Second American Revolution, not of armed insurrection, but one that includes accepting personal responsibility for our own actions and making a difference by voting this November. He encouraged to audience members to vote their conscience, but to consider candidates that would support returning power back to the American citizen. We are like the Founding Fathers, he continued, at the crossroads of a new nation, again answering the question of "at what price" to hand over even more power to the government in return for benefits. "For me," Glover answered, "the price is far, far too high."

The Dave Glover Show is aired on 97.1FM Talk in St. Louis afternoons from 4:00pm-7:00pm Monday through Friday. Although not a political ideologue, Glover takes a pragmatic look at current issues and is highly supportive of local charities, especially those involving the military.
