Extra features of the Radio Shack TRC-483 include a weather band receiver with ten channels, a switch for immediate access to the CB emergency channel, and Public Address functionality, according to the RS web site. With the right antenna and power supply, TRC-483 owners can use it as a home-based CB and weather band receiver.
SPECIFICATIONS
Radio Shack specifications indicate that the TRC-483 boasts a four watt transmitter power and operates on twelve to sixteen volts DC (negative ground). This allows for use in an automobile. It has a fifty ohm antenna impedance and weighs two pounds, 4.5 ounces.
REPAIR & PARTS
Vintage Manuals, Inc. sells a service manual on this CB for $25 U.S. dollars (as of 2011). Radio Shack's web site states that customers can order parts at local stores or dial 1.800.843.7422. Their web site provides a list of replacement parts. The manufacturer also refers to the TRC-483 as catalog number 21-1557 or 210-1557.
VALUE, SALES
Radio Shack has discontinued the TRC-483 model. However, they still show up for sale/auction on eBay fairly often. This model typically sells for less than twenty dollars, though it would probably go for somewhat more if still sealed in the original box.
