Radio:Local Or World-Wide is Still Number One with Me

Radio is My Favorite Source of Music, news and Commentary

I love my radios! Yes,plural radios. I have a GE Super-Radio in the kitchen which is on most of the time. By carefully turning the dial I find many great radio stations. Radio offers not only opinions from Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Michael Savage, to name a few, it also offers a great variety of music. Stations offer music from the fifties, sixties, seventies . Some stations offer bluegrass, classic country, jazz, hip-hop and rock. There are also radio dramas, sports and religious programs.A little somthing for everyone on AM. FM offers Public Broadcasting, religion and many, many music stations but not as much commentary as AM. Here in Ohio, my radio picks up Boston, New Orleans, Philadelphia,Detroit, Richmond, Atlanta at night, once the sun sets. It is a lot of fun trying to tune in a elusive station long enough to hear the city.

I also have a short-wave radio. It is an old Realistic DX300. This radio is connected to an outside antenna. With this radio on I can travel the world. I've listened to Radio Japan, the Voice of Vietnam, Radio Sweden,Voice of Turkey,Deutsche Welle,BBC,BBC World Service, stream for Africa and so many more. The programs vary widely in content. I've listened to
Chinese language lessons for English speakers, debates over whether women prisoners in Sweden should get a two-week vacation every summer as the men do,quiz shows from Japan, folk tales from Turkey, music from Africa ,and medical information shows. One of the really striking things about short-wave music programs is the wide variety of music. Soulful love songs from France, wonderful Hispanic music, opera,Indian,Chinese Korean music with all the instruments we
never hear , are as close as your dial. Does it cost money ? No . You have to buy a short-wave radio,of course, and you'll need a wire antenna for really good reception but these are simple to find and with a little research you will find the right one for the radio you bought. Then sit back and travel the world.
