Rain Aids Drought Conditions in Middle Tennessee

Thunderstorms and rain swept through Middle Tennessee on Tuesday night bringing relief to months of drought. The area received rainfall that was desperately needed as several bands of thunderstorms swept through the area. Most areas were vastly relieved to see the falling rain, and could even tolerate the storms that came with it. For most of the area the storms were not that bad, producing hardly any damaging wind and not resulting in much damage from lightning.

The areas of Macon and Sumner County had been waiting on the rain for a while, and were glad to see the front pass through. Residents of Portland, TN and Lafayette, TN knew that the rains could help to ease emergency water situations in their areas, and were hopeful that more of the restrictions that had been placed on water use in current months could be lifted as a result of the rainfall in the last week or so.

Not all areas were so lucky though; in Southern Middle Tennessee the storms were more severe in nature and resulted in some Tornado warnings for residents. Residents in several communities in Southern Middle Tennessee were instructed to take cover when strong rotations were seen within the storm. However, the next morning brought no news of severe damage in any areas, so although they had spent a night worrying about the possibility of bad weather, they were surely relieved when the worst did not come and they still had gotten to see some rain fall.

Fortunately for the entire area, the rainfall is coming before truly cold weather sets in to the area. Since, temperatures in Tennessee in the winter can drop extremely low, this kind of storm in November often results in areas of snow and ice. Probably due to the excessive heat of the past summer though, things are not cooling off in the area as quickly as they normally do, and temperatures the night of the storms were actually quite mild ranging from fifty to sixty degrees in most of the areas.

Unfortunately, the rains are being followed in by a couple of days of cooler weather as well, and while most everyone was ready for the rain, not everyone is prepared for the cooler weather that is on its heels. Many residents of Middle Tennessee will probably be turning their central units to heat for the first time this fall, or making calls to their gas companies to be sure they are ready for the winter that is sure to come. But, while weather the last week has been a hot topic in the entire area, we are all expecting at least a little more warm weather before we drag out our winter coats.
