The rain continues to pour as the thunder rolls somewhere in the heavens. Nearby, lightning strikes a tree, and it falls, nearly hitting the cloaked figure. This figure does not stir, however. It stands there as though it is a statue sent from the underworld for seemingly no reason whatsoever.
Finally, the figure turns, and I see red eyes and a strand of gold hair. This figure is obviously female, and she does not see me. Of course, that is a good thing, as I have come with intentions of murder.
I reach to my side, where my sword lies in the ground, unsheathed. My knee strikes a rock, and it rolls in the mud, hardly making a sound. The cloaked figure turns her head towards me and I catch an emotion in her glowing eyes - panic. This was not an emotion I had expected, for the one who hired me said the hooded figure had no emotion other than evil rage. But now, I'm beginning to realize that the human female was indeed just that - a human - and one with feelings at that.
I had heard rumors that she was a "wicked witch" who would cast spells on me that would kill me in a heart beat. But now I'm not so sure those rumors are true. She seemed frightened, paranoid, unsure of herself in this storm.
Did she sense my presence? Did she know what I was about to do? Why was she there? Had she been running away from something? Questions raced through my mind that would never be answered unless I asked her myself...
I picked up my sword when "the witch" turned her back on me. As I did, the trenchant weapon hit against a nearby boulder. The blade made a sickening screech as metal hit rock. The noise numbed my fingertips and made me clench my teeth in pain and in prayer, hoping that this human did not hear, though I knew there was no hope.
The eyes once again turned toward me, and fear flashed through them like a blazing inferno. She was terrified of me, even though she couldn't see me... Or maybe that just added to it.
She stammered in the darkness, asking who was there. I took that time to launch. But as I ran at her, she shrieked a screech higher pitched than any human - let alone a failed science experiment like me - could ever bear.
I fell to my knees at her mercy; my stub of a right arm burning as if it was being eaten by leeches. I couldn't help myself. I howled.
It was a howl that seemed to come from hell itself; a howl that pierced the darkness and interrupted the storm; a howl that scared the rain back to the clouds.
The human stopped screeching, but my howl was continuous.
My stub grew, and the pain was like nothing I had felt before. It hurt, and I had not originally been made to feel pain. I had been made to kill.
My fingers grew long, and my nails grew sharp and canine-like. My howl grew louder as the pain also grew. My alien head was starting to take on a new shape.
The holes in my head filled themselves, and I could feel them being added on with something ending in a point.
Still I howled at the sky; howled at the pain; howled at my own howl; just howled at everything.
My short tail grew, and my eyes turned a glowing, flaming red.
The human looked at me and pointed off to the left of her. And so I ran, still howling. I ran for weeks in the same direction that she had pointed me in that day; not knowing where my destination was; figuring that I'd know when I got there.
And I did.
When I reached a log cabin standing all alone, miles away from the forest I'd met the human in, I knew what I'd been recreated to do. I had been recreated to kill once again.
Not knowing about the strength I possessed, yet still instinctively knowing about it, I charged the wooden door, smashing it to splinters. The scientist that had originally created me as a total failure was sitting by the fireplace shocked to see me. I paid no attention to his emotion. I just lunged.
I devoured the devil that sent me to murder and headed back to show the human how strong I had become...and that she had nothing to fear anymore.
I ran long and hard and faster than ever, carrying the still bleeding head. I had finally stopped howling.
When I entered the darkness of the forest, I stopped dead. There on the leaf covered ground in front of me, I saw the human lying with my silver sword protruding through her heart; blood dried from over-exposure to the cold winds that always blew here.
I knew who had done it immediately.
I dropped my trophy and stared at it. I couldn't help myself.
Growling, I ripped the head to shreds, anger flashing in my eyes at the pain he caused her...
