Rain or Shine...The Games Must Go On!

Maverick Stadium, at The University of Texas Arlington Campus, was the site for the North Texas 2007 Special Olympic Games. The athletes performed their events, despite objections from Mother Nature! Rain poured off and on, as the athletes diligently competed for the gold medal prizes. The feeling of brotherhood and joy radiated throughout the Athlete Village, as the athletes supported one another in their various competitions.

Actress and Logan Milan Spokes model, Ashlyn Dixon was on hand to award medals and dance the night away with the participants. "I flew in from Las Vegas for this event. (She attended the "Steel City" premier with her friend Johnny Brenden, the night before). I wouldn't miss it for the world! A lot of my friends wanted me to stay and party for the holiday, but I wanted to spend my weekend with the athletes...they are amazing!" Dixon went on," I made so many great friends and I will always continue to work for this event. The athletes are truly stars! They have taught me a lesson about what is important in life...love, friends and family. I want to thank Kelly Coffey, Public Relations Director and Margaret Larsen, CEO for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime. These athletes are shining examples of sportsmanship. Our pro athletes could learn a lot from them"

Several of the events did need to be rescheduled, due to flooding issues. Those events will take place at a later date and different venue (TBA). The weather did cooperate for the closing ceremonies and the athletes were dressed to impress. They danced the night away and celebrated another wonderful year of fellowship. As the games closed and tearful goodbyes were heard throughout the parking lot, a feeling of inspiration began to rise in everyone. A member of the security team summed it up best, as he waved to the departing buses..."See ya' next year!"
