A rain-soaked angel.
The screeching and screaming of the surrounding area broke into my reverie with a resounding crash, and I noticed for the first time I was losing my balance. Pulling myself back inside the window, I quickly searched my apartment for my camera. Personal belongings flew off the table until I finally spotted it sitting near the couch under an issue of Discover.
I took the camera out of the case and quickly turned it on, moving to the window and hanging out once more. The medics were quickly moving in on the scene, and I didn't have much time to capture the moment. The lens zoomed in on my rain-soaked angel and the shutter snapped.
Smiling, I walked over to my lap top and sat down, turning it on and clicking my tongue impatiently. The screen blinked brightly at me while I connected my camera to my lap top. Whirring happily, a program popped up and I clicked on the latest picture.
A knock came at the door, but I ignored it, staring at the picture on the screen intently. Some words were spoken urgently, passing through my mind idly as I worked with my new creation. An indistinct warning was sounded, causing my door to be smashed in not too long after. I rolled my eyes at them and finished what I was working on in time for an officer to hover over me, checking over my work.
"Can we ask you some questions?" the officer asked, pulling out a notebook.
I smiled up at her. "I was just finishing up some work."
She looked my my lap top's screen for a moment. "Why did you take a picture of her?"
"She's beautiful. My rain-soaked angel, I mean," I said, clicking on the picture once more. My printer started up, copying my work onto paper.
The officer narrowed her eyes, giving her a rather dour look. I wrinkled my nose at her as she asked, "What is your relationship with the victim?"
"She was my girlfriend," I replied, smiling again. "Soon to be fiancée. I even had the ring all ready to give to her."
"I'm sorry," the officer said softly, her blue eyes wavering. Blue like the rain outside; blue like the eyes of my angel.
"No need to worry," I responded, ever smiling. "I was able to capture her last moment."
"What last happened in here?" she asked, flipping her notebook to a new page.
I picked up the paper from the printer, tracing a finger along the silhouette of my angel. "I had just proposed to her." My eyes narrowed and my smile disappeared. "She said no."
"What happened next?"
I placed my fingers at the top of the paper and slowly ripped it down the middle. "She became my rain-soaked angel."
