Rain of Truth

Scott Bauer

Someone once said

"the rain is like the truth,

it falls on everyone's head equally."

I hold this quote to be factual.

The truth is distributed equally.

But the reality is that many of us

raise umbrellas or seek other shelter

when the downpour begins.

Very few people have the fortitude and courage

to stand, naked to the sky,

and allow themselves to be soaked

by the life-giving truth that the world give to us.

The fear of what it will bring

rushes the masses into caves of ignorance

and buildings of cowardice and false desperation.

Wind, flood, hail, hurricane

all can be mortal enemies of man,

but the rain, the truth itself,

has, and never will, cause harm to us by itself

So set aside your flimsy parasol

stand firm where you are in life

when the drops of knowledge and truth

fall onto your head and mind

embrace the storm

for it is one of the sole gifts of life

that will cleanse and nourish your soul and spirit.

Yes! Very true. Good extended metaphor in this fine didactic poem. Looking forward to reading more of your poems. :)
