Rainbow

Ali Canary
Believer sees a gift from God

The atheist, refraction

But both agree it's beautiful

And brings them satisfaction

Muslims, Jews and Catholics

All follow different leaders

But all can see the beauty of

The irises, the cedars

No matter what our differences

Of color, creed or race

The same breeze cools a sweaty brow

The same sun warms a face

As birdsong in the morning,

The cricket's chirp at night

Can bring woman and man alike

A sense of great delight

The rainbow should remind you that

We share our place of birth

A ribbon to tie a priceless gift:

Our precious planet, Earth.

Almost a year later & I was still deeply touched. Ali, this deserves more attention! I could almost imagine it as the lyrics to a song they'd sing at Unity. Beautiful concepts. And the picture is still awesome to me!

This poem is bringing me to tears, Bat. The simple concept is so true, so overlooked, and you've brought it to life so touchingly. Something abt the lines, "the same breeze cools a sweaty brow, the same sun warms a face" just reached inside so deeply, it almost hurts. Thank-you for sharing this sense of connection. BTW, the picture grabbed me so instantaneously, I just enlarged it on that other page so I could get lost in it awhile, before I even read your lovely poem.

WOW! Just chalk up another amazing talent for you! This is wonderful, and the message is powerful. Let's see, so far we've counted (1) amazing artist (2) comedic genius (3) descriptive writer (4) gifted poet (5)..............

She's a poet, too? Who knew? Could not agree with your sentiments more and as Saul pointed out, your meter was spot on.
