It is hard for a lot of kids to be cooped up inside, especially rambunctious two year olds. During our last rainy day, we went indoor fishing. I tied a strong magnet to a string and made little fish out of felt and googly eyes, then attached some paper clips to the fish. If your children are a bit older they would probably enjoy making some of their own fish. You can also make them out of paper.
We packed snacks in a basket (relatively no mess items like fruit snacks and grapes), then boarded our boat; the couch in the living room. I put the fish on the floor in front of the couch and we had a fun time trying the catch the fish and enjoying our snacks.
Picnic and a Movie
Another activity we enjoy on rainy days is an indoor picnic lunch and movie. I make us sandwiches and pack crackers, fruit and a couple of cookies. I then spread out a blanket and put in a favorite movie and we watch it while enjoying lunch.
Water Works Day
Another fun thing we've done is learn all about water. Let your child play in the tub; provide them with interesting items like boats, funnels, cups and washcloths. After playing in the tub I usually let my son help me with the dishes. He enjoys watching the bubbles from the soap and likes rinsing the dishes. Another fun water activity is to provide your child with a dry sponge and a bowl with a very small amount of water. They will be amazed with the way the water soaks into the sponge. You can also put a small amount of water (a few drops) on a piece of wax paper, put another piece of wax paper over top and let your child "push" the water around or make pictures.
There are lots of activities that can occupy your toddler's time even if they are stuck indoors. Be creative and you'll find plenty to do.
